The domain is for a competitive keyword it was on the first page of google and saw it expired. It went to auction and I won it yesterday how do I get back to the original spot. Any tips I used a website to grab the old pages and content from that site would it help if I kept it and added more content or dont additional content. Please help! Thanks in advanced!

New content is never a bad thing. Get the site back to its former glory and keep it updated, don't spam, don't give up and you will be sure to see good results.
    Good luck!

First page of google is a very broad term which I see people using, I would check in semrush to see historically where it ranked. Head over to web.archive.org and grab all the content you want.

i brought an EMD few months back, with exact search for 10k+ made a site with high quality articles did all white har SEO slowly i can do.
site wasn't ranking for any keyword.
I started my research and got to know that i brought a domain which was already got EMD penalty, then i started all white hat + grey hat. Nothing working.
i went to blackhat with hardcore comment backlinks and some homepage link. guess what, site now getting more than 5000 unique a day!

If you don't mind stealing content (and possibility getting DCMA'ed) you could go to archive.org and put all the old content on your site

Or you could rewrite the content, making sure you use pretty much the same keywords in h1/title/desc tags and alt attributes. Also don't forget to redirect all 404 errors to the homepage to keep link juice.

I would choose the second solution that leeshoes has written about.

It should be enough to prepare new content optimized for the same keywords. Also remember not to change the title of the website too much. As for 404 errors, I suggest you looked for the strongest pages (with some backlinks) and restored them (replacing the content with a new one) instead of redirecting everything to the homepage.
