I only see a nightmare when I imagine the future of making money online

With the whole COPPA/FTC thing, I can see this expanding to Google Play, and ultimately all other platforms. So you will be liable of collecting data from people when you cant and face potential huge fines.

Imagine for instance, creating a hit viral app like Flappy Birds in such an scenario. An awesome, fun cute looking game. Now imagine doing that or any similar thing under COPPA/FTC.

Pretty much all fun apps, colorful, pretty much anything that can raise CTR for games and so on, would already be at risk of being "made for kids". Oh and they want to raise it to "minors".

Seriously, I see nothing but a regulatory hellhole in which we are held liable of all collecting data from people. Imagine, every time you upload a video to promote something, or make social posts, or make an ad campaign, or upload an app in Google Play... you are by default at risk of a legal nightmare against the FTC, all because some autistic helicopter moms "parental advocacy groups" want to make liable everyone a parent of the kids clicking on things all over the fucking internet. So not the parents or the fucking host (Youtube/Google/etc) are now liable, but US for each video, app, post, ad campaign... we make. This is now the present with FTC, and the future will only be worse.

This will kill the entire ecosystem of creativity that allows for those great stories of some game or video becoming viral and making tons of money and keeps the wheel sniping so independent creators and business can make it. But the model of the future is only corporate hyper regulated monopolies destroying all independent creators and replacing them. This is already happening in YT, they kill all independent creators and replace them with disney+ and so on.

I recommend you to watch all videos on that channel on this topic. It's fucking crookery, it's nuts. All under the good ol "lets save the children" narrative to cater for the low IQ masses.

It's no secret that governments (no matter what country) wanna regulate the internet. We've already seen that happening with Bitcoins, Article 13 in Europe, Streaming Licenses for Germany etc. - The problem here, is that you cannot do anything as an individual. You have to play by their games or you are going to end up, at the worst case, in prison. To say it is going to be a nightmare is a little far fetched in my opinion. New opportunities will come every other day and it's on you to take action and make money before higher ranking people will put an end to it.

Totally agree with you.
It kills all small independent developers
About google play felt on myself how google began to kill indie developers.
Creating unique applications alone becomes simply impossible ...
About five years ago, it was possible to make small applications and games, earning small amounts on each, but with the possibility of gradual development.
Now, I don’t feel absolutely any traffic with google play and I observe constant tightening of the rules for applications by indie developers, there is absolutely no time left for creating some simple interesting projects.
All the developers are busy lately is adding policies to their applications ...
And yes, now they really relate bright applications to children’s ... wtf?

wait, so they already wouldn't allow a flappy bird style simple game? what is the cuttof then?

I wonder how those Minecraft vloggers will fare under this new environment

I suspect tighter editing so they don't say anything that will run afoul of COPPA

That's pretty much it

Governments love to over regulate and ruin everything however the good news is that just because they regulate it doesn’t mean they have the funds or means to enforce it.

It's already a nightmare. Go back few years ago and think how easy was to tart making money with Youtube, Adsense or Amazon. Write your email, name, confirm it and bang, you could start making money immediately. Now, there are loads of requirements to just get into the programs and even more to survive and not get kicked out at any point. Law this, law that, rule this, rule that, almost impossible for a small guy to get around all the crap and rules from Google, Facebook, Amazon...

I've been out of IM for good 6-7 years, first doing some Bitcoin stuff and then Youtube and when Youtube demonetized me, I've got no idea what to do anymore a barriers to entry are huge and everything is too competitive now. After more than 15 years of not having to do a daily job, I'll probably be forced to do one in few months and it's been o long I didn't work anything that I barely know to do anything. Plus it's embarrassing for what kind of wages people have to work here. It's seriously shit situation that gets even worse as I'm not that young anymore, in 40s now.

Maybe we make a new internet.

Like, have the adult internet, and the pussy internet.

Adult free for all and everything, pussy heavily censored and government controlled.

I dont know.
Isnt it already there *wink wink* Deep web

You're just scared of change. It's a good thing that those platforms crash so new ones can grow and rise.

yeah same boat

so far im still monetizing but im so scared, im going to be 30+ with no job experience, i dont think anyone will ever hire me

Some of you guys should look into the policies of 'the internet party'

If things keep going this way, some of us might end up flipping burgers at MacDonald's in the near future. :D

COPPA has been in place since 1998, some early internet mom and pop types of sites got hit with it for collecting under 13's birthdays to send them freebies and coupons.

Youtube accounts have been for over 13s since the start for this reason.

Until a dickhead in their marketing department decided to plaster a slogan to the effect of.....
"Best place for advertising to under kids between the ages of 6-14" or some shit on a CTA for youtube ads.

"so far im still monetizing but im so scared, im going to be 30+ with no job experience, i dont think anyone will ever hire me"

NO.

You are young.

The best short term idea is to create an agency that does what your are expert at, create a portfolio of websites that demonstrate your talents, THEN when you apply for a job "because you are looking for something more stable because you want to "settle down"" they are not hiring an employee, they are actually hiring a "vendor" for the cost of an employee.

Longer term is to start taking the micro courses at Cybrary.IT to learn computer security. THEN buy a CISSP or Cetified Ethical Hacker or forensics training course on eBay for $8, memorize everything in it, build your own Linux lab to practice, get the certification and then apply for a job. Even without a degree you are looking at $70-90K in the USA. to start. The certification is more important than the degree. If they like you THEY will pay for the degree.

Sincerely,

TheEye

You think getting a security job is as easy as that? you need to be a expert in that field, it will take at least 3 to 5 years to be able to land a job, he will be dead by then.

talking about Youtube, I just heard from my local country radio station talk about that kid youtuber who review toys
that boy yea, the famous one , currently is the top youtuber with billions of views , and yes he already a millionaire
what next? I heard from radio, he going to launch his own toy etc so call his own brand .

for me , actually Every gen got pro and con
just like our parents now see the youth , can reach information easily, can learn new things easily
from youtube , online , google it , can see news by click of a mouse etc

unlike last time they have to turn on tv or get newspapers etc to get information.

actually I feel the youth now , the next gen is more will be into IM , using online services to make themselves a living or passion income on top with their full time job

but one thing for sure , IM is not easy.
I have to admit , I can't even make much from adsense, dropship so far
I just cross finger just do it who knows ? we never knows what will happen that all

but one thing for sure is Not easy, which I have to admit despite into IM , online stuffs for years I don't say really earn in fact minus expenses etc.
as you already mention competition rise as years pass

I not expert on IM , everything still learning here.
Some claim competition = good means there are still market there and this is why you see many competition around.
some claim competition = bad, means I have to complete with them , they can afford to lower down the price yet I can't even profit etc

I only noticed over these few years quite a lot youth start doing Live Facebook bidding , or stream gaming .
some yes still on Youtube trying , IG again pose sexy photo , photo shop a lot just hope got some sponsors notice them thus can earn
by marketing their products .

even my country here also come out tons of Internet marketing courses , how to do online marketing aid your business etc stuffs.
