    Hi
I need to send about 1,000 to someone in the UK.
what is the cheapest way of doing this? dont want to use paypal because they are crazy and may limit me.

    I was looking at https://www.xoom.com/united-kingdom

it says 5 bucks but it sounds too good to be true. has anyone used them, or any other suggestions?

Paypal are crazy, I agree, but they are probably your safest option .. Why would they limit you? If anything they would probably limit the payee for receiving such a big sum randomly.

Go with paypal, you will have no worries!

Check moneycorp if it works for you. No fees transfer.

When people say wire do they mean western union?

I was wondering if I could get a payment from someone in the US to my UK bank account without any hassle. But it seems we would both have to sign up for something other than paypal. Boo. ( my paypal is fine, but apparently that doesn't stop them from withholding! )

Western union is ok once you know the person sending it to you is legit. I got money sent to me a while back and was able to pick it up in a travel agents. The fees are crazy though and it's really only a last resort if the person has no other way of sending.

Can they not just do a transfer from their bank account ? All they need is your account details and swift/bic code which your bank will give you. This way it only cost £10 to send the money or £30 for 48 hour delivery. Person sending can usually tick the box to pay the charges on their side so you still get all your money.

Thanks very much for the information! Repped and thanked you.

Since there are fees I think we'll stick to paypal I don't want any hassle and an easy transfer. And IF paypal randomly decide to hold my money ( they assured me they wont but you never know...) I can always ask my buyer to take the money back and try another method I suppose!

What about Moneybookers/Skrill? I prefer them to PayPal although I've never received high payments to my account.
