Hi there, I have been lurking around this forum for almost an year, a couple of weeks ago I decided to join, to eventually gain a VIP status to promote a service that I will launch in a couple of months time.

I am based in the UK, and I am planning on launching a 4G/5G mobile proxy service, I have a couple of friends of mine that work for famous phone carriers, so they can give me a decent discount on data only packages ( I can get a 50GB data package for like 5GB/mo )

I am a full stack dev, so setting up the proxies is the easy part.

The only problem that I am facing right now is the speed of the proxies, as I will be running the service from my apartment, the 4g speeds will be fairly slow (between 12-20 mpbs), I don't have a better location as of right now ( I will eventually get a van and park it under a 5g tower, but that's for later).

Would you guys be interested in the service, even though the speeds are fairly slow compared to other providers ? I am thinking of setting up a welcome offer of 30$/mo for 50GB of data, which will eventually become 45-65$/mo when I start getting customers.

All the proxies/sims will be fully dedicated to the user who purchases them, nothing will be shared between users.

I have a couple of other questions before posting this thread:

Do you guys have any suggestions for me/is there something that I need to be aware of before starting?
Why/why not would you decide to go/not go with me if I eventually start selling them?
How much traffic should I expect the first day after posting a normal marketplace thread? are 15 sim slots enough to start?
Is the speed enough for your use case? (I believe that the current speed is more than enough, unless you are scraping at scale with selenium/puppeteer )

Thank you guys, take care

gridpanel is offering 4g uk proxies for 30-35 pounds per month with no data limit however they restrict the change of ip to every 5 minutes. If you can lower that some people might be interrested

You need to have some customer who will buy at least half of your proxies BEFORE you start.

Cutomers are usually looking for particular proxies. Location/capabilities does matter (Connection Speed, Parallel threads number, Ip rotation speed etc.)
Many people ask for a test and never return.

You should start from 3-5 sims. You can connect more as soon as you need it.

The speed is enough to work, but it's not enough to compete to other sellers. You need to find a location fith a perfect 5G.

Hey, colleague! :)

Our advice to anyone getting into proxies is to ensure your safety, especially if you plan to be a seller.
  • Your legal safety, part one. SIM cards are registered under your name, so unauthorized actions by proxy users can be countered with logs, access restrictions to sensitive (eg, governmental) resources, and basic KYC (Know Your Customer) measures to protect you.
  • Your legal safety, part two. As a proxy provider, you start handling clients' personal data. In the UK, they take such matters seriously, so familiarize yourself with GDPR standards and ensure maximum compliance! This measure is not only to protect you but also to guarantee your clients' protection. With great power of proxy seller comes great responsibility.
  • Your legal safety, part three. Consider drafting a terms of service that includes all rules for returns and provisions for potential disputes. This is very important both for you and your clients.

Regarding speed and pricing -- your initial offers are good, and you can work with that. Think about which user cases fit your offer and focus your marketing efforts on them specifically. Not everyone needs high speeds or unlimited data; gradually, you will find your customers if you can provide a consistent quality of service. By the way, regarding speed, make sure the server does not become a bottleneck under actual client load. And another point about speed -- mobile internet is sensitive to weather. Test the speed in your apartment during rain, there could be unpleasant surprises.

How did you end up going? I'm looking at doing much the same but from New Zealand, but not sure if you found it worth doing

For most users, 50GB won't be sufficient, and speeds of 12-20 Mbps are quite slow. Imagine a customer from China – the distance will reduce speed even further. However, it's worth testing with a few SIM cards to see how it performs.
