So I have experience with SEO, not an expert by any means. I've done all my keyword research.. Already have my first domain.
Never actually started a site or blog on my own, only worked on projects with friends that were already built when I started. Itching to start something for myself.

Within the next few days I'll be committing to a blogging platform and host for the first time.

At first I was pretty convinced I was going to be using Blogger, was told Blogger has its advantages because it's easy to set up Adsense, and is run by Google. I set up the basics of a Blogger, just was going to start throwing my articles on it when I started browsing the BH forum. Now I'm reading that I should definitely be using Wordpress for its SEO advantages (themes and plugins), and I need to make up my mind before I commit and start working.

Also am like 85% sure I'm going to go with Hostwinds, again, never hosted anything in my life so it feels like a bit of trial and error but I hear good things about them.

Basically what I want to know is if Wordpress is going to be worth me learning and how newb friendly it is. If it's actually going to make a difference with SEO and ranking. Any other comments/help would be great.

Just go with whatever you are most comfortable with. Taking action and actually putting in the work and running the website is most important. You can learn wordpress as it is user friendly and has its advantages. However it is not going to affect your results if you do everything else right. Good luck Miss!

I'd go with wordpress... it takes a bit to setup, but from my experience ranking Blogger blogs takes longer anyway. With WP, in the end you will have a bunch of plugins, a seo friendly blog, etc. If your host offers Fantastico on their cpanel, you will probably be able to install WP by very few steps as well

If you want a simple to set up site, Blogger is easier to setup. But as others have already said, Wordpress isn't really hard to set up and the control panel is pretty easy to navigate.

As for customizing your site, Wordpress has so many themes and plug ins that can be installed with just a few clicks.

Also remember that Google can delete your Blogger blog at any time without a reason.

Your own domain and wordpress platform, you won't regret it.

^This. As soon as you get your head around wordpress (which won't take long) you're on your way. It's such a simple platform with a great following and reputation; and a massive amount of themes to choose from. Also, there isn't an issue or problem that someone hasn't already had where you'll find a reply and an answer through googling.
