    is there a plugin that replaces "next post" and "previous post" with the
    actual titles of those posts?

    also, are there any plugins (other than "better search") than can
    improve search results? i'm using "better search" but some of the results
    aren't linking correctly.

    try

    <?php previous_post(); ?>

    and

    <?php next_post(); ?>

    they show titles

    Also for searching use "Search Everything"

    Home Page:
    Open up single.php and look for:

    Code:
    <?php the_content(); ?>
    That outputs your post content, soon after that you should see the Previous/Next text. Switch it with something like:

    Code:
    <ul>
    <li>Previous: <?php previous_post_link('« %link','%title') ?></li>
    <li>Next: <?php next_post_link('» %link','%title') ?></li>
    </ul>

    No, that's not doing it -- the titles are already showing on the 'singles' page.
    I want to show the titles on the index page, this is the code that I need to change:

    Code:

    <div class="alignleft"><?php next_posts_link('« Older Entries') ?></div>
    <div class="alignright"><?php previous_posts_link('Newer Entries »') ?></div>

    that seems strange to want to post titles on the index page. the only way that would even make sense is if you set your post per page to 1 and then use the previous and next post link which i dont think will even work on the index page.

    what's strange about wanting to show the titles of the previous posts on the index page?
    instead of seeing 'previous post', you'll see '10 ways to make money online'.

    if people can see the title of the previous message, i'm hoping they'll be more inclined to click the link.

    think about it.. wordpress uses pagination based on the number of posts per page.. so when using the previous and next post links on an index page wordpress usually links to the next page not the next post. You would be screwing up your pagination. So basically what will happen even if you could use this on the index page would be someone sees your next or previous post title and it will go to the single.php page of that post. This is where you should be using the previous and next post links using the titles. It just makes more sense.

    my blog is set up to only display one post per page -- it's kinda like a newspaper format.
    i was hoping there was a way to have it show the title of the first post on the previous
    page, regardless of how many posts there are on the page.

    but, alas, that seems impossible to do. boo-hoo, sniff-sniff... :(

    thanx for clearing that up! :D
