Hey guys, i'm about to change my notebook to a new one (have old Sony Vaio right now).
I have 900-1000 dollars for it. My only solid condition is that i need a 17" screen (my eyes are weak already).

Can you suggest me some good notebook models?

Wow thats cool! Because when you move to mac, you'll never likely return to Windows. :)

if you are into black hat marketing and download/test/use software, you will be pissed when it's not compatible with a mac..or you have to wait for a compatible version to be released
i have a mac and it's collecting dust.

There are i7 core laptops on sale for under 1k, snag one of those

Honestly I love HP's. Bought a $700 one that lasted 10 years when I was only 10 years old. I am now on my second and I love it. I know they last and I have never, I REPEAT NEVER, had a hardware or software issue. I just needed a better one for gaming/school. I also learned all about them when I used to do affiliate work for HP.

My current laptop is a 15.6" (could have gotten it bigger) with:
    intel i-5 processor
ATI 5650 HD GPU (best at the time might still be)
free upgrade to 8 gb ram :D (not that I will ever use that)
free 720 GB hard drvie upgrade
    Touch Screen :D
    backlit keyboard
    fingerprint reader
    win 7
    webcam

It was $1200 and I had a coupon that knocked it down to $800 with free shipping. You can customize them completely.

I also know if you use a site called Ebates they can provide you with coupons and I think 5% cash back this week which is better than my lousy 2% from CJ lol so I usually turn to them for HP stuff now.

Let me know if you have any questions

I was thinking about HP before : )
I'm from eastern Europe, so I will seek for good HP dealer in my area.
    What's exactly your model?

    I own a Sony Vaio VPCEA45FG.

Screen is 14.6". Well, Believe me, 17" screen is so huge, and will surely make an effect to the whole weight of the lap.

My lap top is so easy portable since it doesnt weigh much, and isnt too big. Well, for me, I cared just for the weight and portability. So this was great.

320HD (Can be upgraded) 512 MB ATI, Core i3. Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium,4 GB ram.

P.S : As I stated that 17" isnt nice and you shouldnt be buying that, It is just my opinion. I dont mind you buying even a 24" one :D

If you are in the US and are willing to wait a little while for a good deal, then I would check out either fatwallet or slickdeals dot net. You can find amazing deals and end up with a laptop for less than you are looking to spend. As far a specs are concerned, it really comes down to what you are doing, I would recommend sufficient ram no matter what you're going to be doing and a decent processor (think i-core 5, or 7). Dedicated video if you intend to be doing any video editing and like stuff. I personally require that any new laptop I buy has an HDMI output.

    Hope this helps

Edit: Just noticed a couple posts above, you said you're in eastern Europe, so that changes the first part of my answer. With regard to windows 7, you can always buy a student edition assuming you're a student for fairly cheap (used to be $30).

    Check out neweggdotcom or tigerdirectdotcom

Pretty much the only places I shop for computers and parts, and it's generally half as much as a stock-built system with 10x the capability. Tailor it to your needs.
