Good to see that nobody here started at the bottom. You had it all figured out. Too bad OP is starting at the bottom and nobody else can relate.

Even if you manage to show some traffic by spamming wherever, this is only going to encourage your supervisor to expect more. So, why not take this opportunity to set things right. You will need to set realistic deliverables/expectations with your boss/supervisor, so that you do not end up in a situation like this again.

If you can't provide your clients with results then don't accept payment when you can't deliver.

Dont make a deal which you cant provide

Some clients have no idea how SEO works. They want results immediately, but SEO takes time. In the future, make sure you can provide what the client wants, or don't take that order.

Its not as easy as 'getting hundreds of visitors' doing SEO this quickly. Ads are a different story but assuming this is a newish site, even with some of the best SEO abilities this is extremely difficult. Backlinks will definitely help but they need to be from quality sites that regularly get indexed $100 per link minimum.

However, if you can't do backlinks, a good start would be to look at longer-tail commercial keywords and start pumping out easier collection pages, which should get you a very small amount of traffic each if your SEO is on point. This is also only possible if the site has A LOT of products, if it does you can also get plug-ins to do SEO and product descriptions in bulk which should get you some traffic as well.
