Back when the web was simple, before all the crazy Google animal updates started, you'd...

- search for something and all the sites on the first page would be relevant to your query. Now all you get is authority sites that happened to mention the keyword you searched for once in their 5,000-word article.

- click on a website you like and get the information you sought in a succinct 400-500 word article. Now you have to sift through 5,000 words to get the information you want.

- build a simple website with just 10K-20K words and rank for a profitable keyword, making you $2K+ per month. Now, 50K words isn't even scratching the surface.

- read and enjoy lots of case studies and ranking experiments from other internet marketers on the same journey as you. Now there's hardly anyone doing case studies or any form of testing because SEO is no longer fun.

- could rank on page 1 in 2 months or less. Now you'd be lucky to get there in 6 months.

I could go on and on. Google has made SEO so f*cking boring. Nowadays, SEO is just a boring anxiety-inducing sweat fest. You could wake up one morning and find out that all of your hard work has gone down the drain because a Google engineer didn't get a blow job from his wife last night.

Penalizing sites on a whim has turned SEO into a nightmare. Back then people were excited building their first website, writing their first article, getting their first visitor, getting their first $100 day...now I hardly see that anymore. They've made it so difficult that even if you eventually achieve success you're so drained of your energy that you can't celebrate, a situation made worse by the knowledge that you could lose it all in one day. Jesus! Google is so f*cking annoyingly disgusting!!

Oh, yeah... Those were the days when you could spam the sh1t out of a website with just garbage gsa links and get ranked even for high competition keywords. hehe

Time changes...and in any field you have to change accordingly... If you don't some one will replace you for sure..
orkut ..yahoo.. nokia.. kodak..some of the example which were one of the leading at that time..
You learn something now and giving you nice income will most probably not work next year...so change is not option but necessity.

One d0follow blog comment link on a decent blog could move your site up 5 pages in the SERPs within 24 hours. It was so much fun!

Edit: decent=PR 3+

Times are changing, so more lateral thinking and growth hacking mentality must take place nowadays.
Instead of market adoption and things like affiliate/arbitrage, we should focus on creating own markets / own products.

What I mean by that is: look more into the future.

In 2017-18, people started talking more intensively about AI. I immediately targeted some micro-niches where I had almost no competition and great profits.

Similarly, there was a strong DeFi trend recently and I had some success there as well.

I agree, i miss those old days
i miss the days where you could cheat amazon affiliates making thousands money without doing anything
sadly, nothing last, maybe 10 years now, we may look back and cherish 2020s was an "easier time" to rank than 2030s

I also hate you for getting to keep your user title !

u gotta look at the bright side too...a door closes a new one opens...dont get behind what u could have or should have done..chances are u have the opportunity to do the same TODAY. but you are not opening yourself to the "new" technology or things.

I have a feeling that it's about to get even darker in the coming years.

Things change and we just need to move with Google right now. In the past, Google moves in our direction. Now, we have to move in their direction

I agree, I hope some other search engine takes over ASAP, because G is basically unusable IMO.
