You ever walk away from your Windows 7 computer for an hour and came back to see your PC installing Windows 10 without your permission? Me neither, until tonight. I can't believe this really just happened.

I'm reading through what people are saying on other forums and sites and there is not one good thing. People saying it's making hardware fail, people saying their stuff is erased. My PC is 5 years old. Looks like I am in for a rough night..

It's currently at 18% and I am sitting here just thinking about all the documents and shit I may losing..

So, take it from me. Back your shit up. And do whatever you can to make sure your Windows PC isn't going to auto upgrade on you.

Your documents will be fine, don't be paranoid! You forgot to cancel the scheduled upgrade. Windows 10 is far way cooler than Win 7, you'll be fine.

Windows 10 has an option to downgrade in case you don't like the new version. Make a quick search. :)

    I'm perfectly fine with win10 - since I had 8.1 pre-installed on my last PC I couldn't wait to upgrade to 10.
Besides some flaws in the beginning, I never really experienced any major issues with it.
I really liked win7 before but win10 beats it imho

Alright, nothing failed and my documents are still there. Original post may have been a little bit over exaggerate.

Yeah, I've actually been satisfied overall with win10 myself, although its a little more intrusive regarding default privacy setting.

I actually wanted to keep win7 set up on a backup drive. But I screwed that up accidentally. After upgrading one pc to see how I liked it, I proceeded to upgrade my laptops too. Some how after I finished all of that I ended up deleting the backup files while resizing some partitions and couldn't revert back on any of them. I even tried reinstalling from an old disk image, but the dvd set had some errors. Was all my own fault for kind of getting ahead of myself. Usually I'm more careful than that. :)

So, good thing I've been mostly satisfied with win10, since I basically lost my win7 completely. lol

I can't believe I'm hearing this. What fourm are we on? How can you be complacent about the direction Windows has been going in these years, and happy with Windows 10??

A few Christmas' ago I got a laptop with Windows 8.1, ran like a gem. When Windows 10 came out I was very excited for a minimal ram usage OS (they did advertise it as such). Cortana seemed great, I like A.I., so, I upgraded. Not a week or 2 later my laptop began to crash with the error message "explorer.exe failed to load" or something like that (pretty much the whole operating system). This happened for a while until I got sick of it and decided to downgrade to Windows 8.1, but guess what? The 60 days had passed and I could no longer downgrade to Windows 8.1. I'm still stuck with it and 90% of the time the start menu and Cortana refuse to open making searching for files a headache of a task.

Because it works as supposed to?
This is being done in less than two minutes:
    http://www.techrepublic.com/article/windows-10-violates-your-privacy-by-default-heres-how-you-can-protect-yourself/
Then it's like every other windows you ran before (afaik). Other than that, I care more about governments restricting privacy than a company collecting data for advertising.

This is what I used to keep it from popping up - because one a couple of weeks ago had actually scheduled it and I had to cancel it. I didn't want that to happen again:

    OS
PS. I will actually be adding a Win 10 install so I can 'play with it' but won't be updating my Win 7 install... at least not yet

Some things just cannot be trusted to behave when left alone. Who knew a Windows machine would be one of these.

I'm quite happy with Windows 10 but I don't blame those who want to stick with windows 7. It's a perfectly good and capable operating system. The way Microsoft has gone about forcing upgrades is just terrible. I'm pretty sure Windows 10 upgrader (and hence windows 10 itself) fits the definition of malware quite nicely. I'm surprised there hasn't been any legal action against them. Maybe Peter Thiel could help?

LOL. Well,"satisfied overall" isn't really the same thing as "happy". And since one of the things I'm not happy about is the "little more intrusive regarding default privacy settings" part, so I'm not really complacent about it either. The first thing I did was turn off as much of the tracking settings as can be found. It is amazing how much companies like MS can get away with in the name of "enhanced user experience". Google is notorious for it as well.

I had done all the things suggested on forums around the world to prevent W10 from installing. Microsoft eventually defeated each of them. The registry entries, Never10, removing updates - all of them. Finally, I revoked system permissions to the SoftwareDistribution folder and the attempted Windows updates stopped. I also locked a few registry entries so that they cannot be changed.

I had found W10 installing on a computer. I did a forced shutdown. When I rebooted, I removed the Ethernet cable. Because W10 could not access files online, it rolled back the installation.
