I feel like its WAY too much... I'm doing a authority website and so far the smallest article is 750 words.. I made a article about a topic I really really like and its 2k words, however the keyword it targets barely gets 1k-2k searches monthly. Should I shorten it or go ahead and post a huge ass 2k word article? I'm afraid it might actually hurt my onsite seo instead of help

I don't see why it would hurt your website?
That was helpful.

OP, go ahead and publish the article on your site. Any long term project tht is content based is going to have conversational content and that sounds perfect... targets a minor KW, is a nice sized article and is something that could keep your visitor on your site for a few minutes.

I build only very large sites and have a lot of that kind of content on them and you would be surprised at the volume of traffic they actually help draw.

Long Articles Are good:

1 - Webmasters will link to your article ( Natural Backlinking )
2 - People will stay more on your page ( more than your competitor ) which is a good sign
3 - You can rank for a lot of LTK without even trying to rank for them

As for your visitor problem :

You can make it more interesting by :

1 - Splitting it on many Pages
2 - Add a on-page navigation menu like wikipedia
3 - Take it a step further and Work on Graphic and make it look like a Guide ( huge natural backlinking potential )

My last tip for you:
When you face a problem, try to look to it from another angle, you will be surprised when it turns out to be a bless ;)

split it into 3 parts, each containing around 650 words.

Some of the above say "split it" and they are correct... I should have also said that. Use the "more" tag, i.e. truncate the article. I wount not split it more than 3 times (probably 2 for the visitor) and you should be golden .

Sorry to "hijack" the thread, but what's the reasoning behing posting the 2k words articles and "split it" ?

I really feel OP should post the 2k word article and make some smaller articles around that one big article and interlink from both the 2k word article and the smaller articles. This way you don't separate the 2k words articles and the "split it" version. Also a plus about this is that you would rank for LKT.

Anxious to know what you guys think :)

just split it in subpages (only if you know what i mean)

Publish it, unless you can break it up properly and distribute throughout your site/blog

If you intend to build an authority site I would suggest to write random amount of words for each article. 700-800 word articles are good with relevant images and videos. Also try Wikipedia style relevant interlinking as it works the best for large websites.

Agree. People are talking like 2000 word article is not a great thing.
Go look at quicksprout.com. Neil Patel writes massive articles and people love it.
If it's rich in content a 2000 word article is excellent. Splitting it is a bad idea.

Just post it. It should provide your site with a good variety in word count assuming that the other articles in your site are shorter. Just make sure to break them down into smaller chunks (shorter paragraphs) and use lists when necessary.

If your article is content rich and not just filler then I see no reason why it would be a negative, in fact I could see it as a positive.

No, they're not saying to split into 3 pages with 3 different URL, splitting is just for increasing the page views, decreasing the bounce rate.

I think google will see that kind of split pages as a single page

Thanks for the answer guys, will publish the article today :d

Also a few more questions, I made this site 2 days ago what does the "Pages" and "Hits" mean in awstats?

Is it page=pageviews and hits=impressions?
