This has probably been mentioned before, but I thought I would bring up, I love the way whenever you mention Blackhat to outsiders of the forum they automatically think it's illegal, I have seen a few newcomers come on to the board and say I have done so and so, but not blackhat as it's illegal, or you speak to friends and they think the same thing. I remember before I came on this forum I had exactly the same thoughts, as I had watched Die Hard 4.0 and they were going on about blackhat and how illegal it is, and at first I was like oh I am going to stay away from that, then I started reading the threads and I was like wow, maybe it's not. Now I couldn't live without it lol.
Anyway just thought I would share that as it is quite funny when you think about it.

Have a good day or evening all

actually hackers do live in this forum, doing blackhat but you will never know who is who, so partly your wife is right, but that does not mean blackhat is a totally based on hacker's forum, its much of a blended site, keep rolling in

I did this mistake once, they quickly responded me saying "ZOMG, you are the guy who hacks credit cards, websites and spam? Illegalz criminalz, you are!" Karma police will hunt me down. :rain:

The term Blackhat, was first tossed for the bad hackers [crackers, they say]. As it's been widely used in so many documentaries about hackers etc. it's no surprise people will freak out when you say "blackhat marketer", they'll just blank out the word marketer. That said, blackhat in general considered the evil-thing, gotta live with it. I'd refrain from saying blackhat to anyone online or offline, just "Internet Marketer / Web Developer" is enough for them to know what I do for living. Much easier to explain it by saying "commission based" even if you're not.

hehe, this is funny cuz I've been trying to explain a little bit about "blackhat" to some friends and family and the looks I get is just hilarious... Usually a BUG EYE followe by rolling of the eyes as you explain its not illegal and go into a few things... It usually ends with "YOU BETTER BE CAREFUL!" And I'm all, "Oh I hadn't thought of that, but now that YOU say I should maybe I will start being careful!:)" hahah People just don't get it, and you are better off just not trying to explain to anyone unless you think you can sell um something:) hahha

Oh, and like currentnews said... and I hate to repeat the obvious, but... Just because you aren't doing anything illegal doesn't mean there aren't alot of people here who are:) This is sorta the "Public Underground"... Like a "GATEWAY DRUG" hahahaha

Haha brilliant, I told my driving instructor once about blackhat, as he was asking me about building websites and getting traffic etc, and I slipped out with a blackhat method and his face was a picture, I stopped the conversation rather fast lol.

yeah I get that as well..

People either think we are some "genius" internet gurus, or some shady internet mafia hacking NASA and stuff..

And no matter how hard you try to explain what it is that we do, they do not get it.

Once my accountant called me and asked me out for a coffee since he wanted to talk about something. I was like, OH NO, what has happened. When I asked whats up? He was like, I noticed you have been on this "dark hat forum" and I am concerned. It took me a while to explain , what exactly it is :D

lol. dark hat. hehehehe. Just a query, as I'm rather new at pulling in the $$$'s. If you start earning enough, advisable to get accountant? I was thinking if I made enough I would so as to make sure taxes were paid properly.

Yes I would recommend getting an accountant, they will show you how to claim things back from the tax man, i.e a new computer as you wouldn't be able to earn without etc etc.

ooooh yes please. My entry level laptop is feeling the pinch. Also heard if you work from home and have a designated office space, you could claim part back from taxes as thats also essential for your business.

I can't go into full detail because I do not know fully, I am just going on what I have been told by various people on what they have claimed, but yeah if you work from home and are self employed, there is a various things you can claim for on your taxes.
