    hi,

i am doing keyword research right now and found a competitors site that is ranking nr #2 for a KW with 200k exact searches in US only.

I checked how he is doing it - he just buys an expired domain with name more or less connected to his KW, put just one short page of content and buys footer/sidebar links on sites similar to this one:
    Code:
    http://www.tim.co.nz/about.html
    - do you see these almost hidden Russian texts with links down of this page?

His backlinks are on pages completely unrelated to his KW. Some are almost hidden like in the example above. Its obvious that these are paid links.

I though this is what google is fighting with for a long time already :) It seems google is losing a bit here...

Believe it or not, those types of links seem to pass manual reviews even though they look patently obvious to us (though the lighter colored text in your example is really pushing it). I've come to this conclusion after watching competitors in highly policed markets live a long time on links like that. They also still get away with blog networks where all the sites have absolutely no theme, just crappy 'articles' with keyword anchors. Maybe someone will post about how their completely closed source of links got them in trouble but I think that Google prefers to infiltrate the link networks as fake buyers (at this point).

The only thing this guy is doing according to what we think is a good pratice after penguin is anchor diversity (with general anchors like click here).

My conclusion: do whatever blackhat backlinking (paid links, blog networks) with high anchor diversity and you will rank the same way as before penguin...

    Can somebody confirm this?

If that is true it will be REALLY good news for sure... but highly doubtful I fear :(

Sorry for the "resurrection" of the thread, I came from another and I didn't see that the last post was a few months ago :(

I tend to think that, but always knowing that a monthly update can hurt very badly :)

Is it all about anchor diversity only?
