Aw, I'm sorry, bud. That's so sad. My girlfriend's Yorkie died last week and she's still crying over it. Losing a pet is an extremely hard thing to deal with.

I had a cat when I was growing up. He was my best (only) friend and I talked to him all the time and he would sleep at the foot of my bed every night. He died of a burst bladder on the morning of my 10th birthday. Still haven't really gotten over it and it's been almost ten years now.

All I can tell you is to stay strong. He'll always remember you, and vice versa. Good luck, bud.

Wow, your dog was very old. That's great! What a great life to have lived. But the circle of life keeps rolling... You will make happy memories again.

BillW - real sorry to hear about your loss-the little ones are my babies as well so I understand your loss-all of mine needed extra care in their older years and looking back I see how fortunate they were to have gone when they did as I would have never known if they were hurting or not . .maybe you can find peace in knowing you kept him/her safe and happy

I put my husky to sleep I had him for 13 years. It was horrible, he was with me through 2 engagements and two children. There is no easy way to get over this, its going to take time.

I was going to say: A dingo ate yo baby. But that was only if it was a real baby you lost. Since it was a dog, I will have to tell you, sorry dude, that sucks instead.

My dog died as well today =/. A purebred Cocker Spaniel 13 yo. He had liver failure or something. He spent the last 3 days throwing up everything he ate, had to put him down. I feel you.

My heart goes out to you Bill.

A dog is the best friend that anyone could have. They are much more loyal than most human friends. A dog would gladly take a bullet for you.

When I was born, my parents got a dog for me, named PeeWee. It was a small dog. Part fox terrier and part toy terrier.

When I was around five years old, my parents told me that my dog used to lie down next to my crib when I was a baby and if a stranger came near my crib, PeeWee would growl at them, as if to say, "Watch out buddy . . . I am the protector of this child!"

When I was old enough to ride a bike, PeeWee would always tag along, no matter where I went. One day as I was riding my bike in the neighborhood, suddenly out of nowhere, a big German Shepherd attacked me and knocked me right off from my bike. Immediately, PeeWee went into action and went after that German Shepherd full force. Although PeeWee was just a small dog, it didn't matter. He was determined to protect me. Well, PeeWee got torn up quite badly, but managed to chase that German Shepherd off. His wounds finally healed after a couple of months and he was okay again.

As the years went by and I was 12 years old, I had so many interests and had so many things going on, that I didn't pay as much attention to him as I did before.

One day when I came home from school, my father greeted me as I walked in. He told me that he had come home and discovered PeeWee dragging himself across the floor. He said that he had taken him to the Vets and that the Vet said that PeeWee had lived a long life and was on the brink of dying. And so my father had the Vet put him to sleep forever.

I went to my room and cried for two days straight and was in mourning for a week after that. I felt so bad that I had forsaken my best friend and hadn't paid the attention to him that I had done when I was a little boy. I instinctively KNEW that PeeWee felt that his usefulness and duty to me was no longer needed and just lied down to die.

To this day, I get tears in my eyes when I think of that dog and what a loyal friend he was and what great times we shared.

    I will never forget him . . .

    "Wiz"

My dog is the exact same as Wiz's story. I've had her for 10 years this christmas and she still sleeps at my feet every night. she's very protective though she's small. They're supposed to have longer lifespans then 10 years though I think.

I'm sorry for your loss Bill.
