Sounds stupid I know but I dont want to mess anything up on my site and I cant find any mention of this. I have never done SEO before and am currently starting a project.

My question is, is it possible to rank blog posts in google with certain keywords? Or is it only pages that you can rank.

OP, Yes, you can rank for blog posts that target certain keywords.
Just be sure its well optimized, and you have good backlinks + social signals.

His post has nothing to do with PR.

Thanks, for a second there I was confused. I have two more questions about SEO if you don't mind, might as well ask while I am here.

When creating web 2.0s should I link straight to my money site homepage or should I link to specific blog posts and pages?
And should I put some time into ranking my web 2.0s for more link juice?

You want to link the 2.0 to the page/post you want to rank.

Additionally, you want to build links to your 2.0.

People commonly target raw URL, generic and LSI.

A 2.0 acts as a buffer for other links to help the money site rank.

So let me get this straight, if you rank your other pages/posts your entire site and homepage will go up in rankings as well?

You build the 2.0 to the KW, page, or post you want to rank. If you have a static homepage and want to rank the home page for 'Cars' you build links to that homepage.

What matters is ranking the page with the KW. Most sites have inner pages which target a KW, so you build links to them.

You can build links to cat pages, power pages, landing pages, ect. You can build links to any page, including the home page. But you want the links pointing to the page with the keyword you want to rank.

If I build a site about cars, and have an article about 'Red cars' on the site I want to rank. I build links to the URL of the article about 'Red Cars'.

Some people do things differently. I have seen movement for an entire site if I build like to category pages and home pages, but the movement is not as great, in my experience, as links to the actual article I want to rank.

Same here, linking to the page of your website with the keyword you want to rank for works good and also pushes the rest of the website and inner pages a little up.

Imo, If you rank your posts, it will only go up in rankings not the entire site. But when you target inner pages or other category pages, there are chances for your homepage to move up the rankings.

Blog posts will definitely rank if you build links to them, you can also try tiered link building techniques for SERP improvements.

I hear PR is pretty much dead and that web 2.0 and PBN are the way to go now. My plan is to target incredibly low competition long tail keywords with maybe 150 searches per month and build Web 2.0s and PBN's for them.

Both Pages and blog posts will rank, if the SEO is done right. Am not just speaking, but have experienced it.

I figured instead of opening up another thread I would ask on here since I already opened this one up to ask questions. Would you count in every word on your landing page/post including top menu, footer menu, sitemap, sidebar when you are calculating keyword density?

It seems incredibly difficult to incorporate long tail keywords into your content as it seems somewhat spammy.
