I just got this message from Google. Has anyone else received one of these before? It seems you have to be a family member of a Google employee or know them personally.

    Hi Trusted Tester,

We'd like to tell you that NAME REDACTED, Google employee, has recommended you to be an official Google Trusted Tester. As a Google Trusted Tester, you can be part of an exclusive group that helps improve our products by providing candid feedback and identifying problems before anyone else gets to use them.

We'd love for you to join this group and experience new products and features, and trust you will respect the confidentiality that makes this program a success.

To get started, please review and accept our Trusted Tester Agreement, and complete your profile. The more information you provide in your profile, the better we can match you with appropriate products and features.

Once you've completed your profile, you can sign into the Google Trusted Tester website to view campaigns.

    Thank you,

    The Google Trusted Tester team

that could be cool. Google launches so much stuff they then later abandon that I bet you would get to see a bunch of stuff that never gets launched.

I never received a letter like that but I was one of their "testers" so to speak because one day I came home and there was a Cr - 48 (Original ChromeOS laptop) waiting for me. I did a survey on Google's Facebok page where they tested me on how many of their products I use and which ones. Thought nothing of it until that nice little gem was waiting for me a couple months later.

I say this, treat the letter and the opportunity at legit until you have without a reasonable doubt to believe otherwise. You really could be able to see/do some cool stuff like lloughry said.

I really want to play with a chrome book, how was it? I am a huge google fan, There is not an Apple product in my life, I don't even have quicktime on my PC. Oh wait, I have a first generation iPad but even the kids won't touch that any more. I don't think it's been turned on in at least a year

They did ask for my address. Hopefully they need me to test out some gadgets. I know when I use to use Adwords a lot they use to mail me a lot of stuff. Even a USB powered mini fridge once. It didn't actually work but cool nonetheless.

    A pic for reference

Zoomsixx, I hope you don't mind me talking about my experience on your thread here but I think answering lloughry's question will just give you that much more insight on weather or not to pursue the email from G.

lloughry, I actually still have the Cr-48 and used it the other night. It's by no means a powerhouse or even adequate for mild media consumption. The bottleneck of the system in the CPU, it's just not that powerful and the on-board graphics capability are that of a much older generation of computers.

To give you an idea, any youtube video defaults to 480p and most the time the rendering is so bad that I have to downgrade to 240p to get a smooth playback. 240p is insanely low but keep in the mind the screen is only 11'' and not a high-res screen so it's still watchable, I used to watch a ton of netflix on it particularly the BBC version of Top Gear just fine on it.

Video playback aside it's actually a very handy little laptop to have. I never have to worry about it's OS being outdated since it's pure ChromeOS and receives updates just like any other pure Google device. Battery life if really good, a solid 5-7 hours from it when I just browsing the web and keep the screen slightly dimmed.

It's a great laptop for someone who might be in college or a professional on the go who simply needs to stay connected. Obviously it uses all of G's services so word/excel/powerpoint etc. are there so literally the only downside is it could have used a better CPU with better built in graphics.

That fridge it actually pretty cool looking! Too bad it didn't work because I could see myself having one of those around my desk (if it was free of course)!

As far as them needing your address, I would just say that if you have a bad feeling about giving that info out then just pass on it. You've been on BHW for awhile and have some posts under you belt so I would assume that you could spot scams/fakes/fraudulent requests pretty easily at this point. I might do some research about the "Google Trusted Tester" program and letter in general and see if anyone else has posted anywhere else the same thing that you received.

It looks pretty legit. All of the links were valid. I'm pretty good at spotting phishing emails. I had to agree to a TOS to finish the sign up. I Googled the employee that invited me and he does work for them. I did Google the program itself and it seems its usually for family members of employees and their friends. I'll keep you guys updated.

Sweet! Yeah, if you do/get anything cool you'll have to post about it, if you can that is as I'm sure there was something about confidentiality in that TOS agreement haha.

I'm thinking the same thing as steelballs. Google definitely can't be trusted. Regardless, please update this thread and let us know what they want you to test (mind control implant, Google Underwear, or other privacy invading product).
