I just got home from a meeting with a Chiropractor. I walked out of his office, check in hand, and with an agreement for $1000 per month + marketing expenses. You can ask me any question you might have and if there is enough demand I can upload some of my documents.

Obviously there are a lot of people on here who talk shit so I will post a picture of the check as proof. Note today's date 8/10/11...

First off congrats!
My question is, most people outside of the IM world don't know
anything about SEO, how did you explain the importance of SEO
to this chiropractor and convinced him to pay $1k a month?
 
What exactly are you going to be giving him, as in, what's the service you offered for $1000/month?

I will tell you that in my pitch, I used the phrase "SEO" only one time. You are exactly right, they do not know anything about it and so it is pointless to explain it to him. What I did do though is print out a blown up copy of the first page of a search result for "miami chiropractor" and then I highlight the box where ads are, in a different color, I highlight the the local pages box, and in another color, the organic results.

I explain to him about the ads, that they are the spots you pay for and I can have you up there the day I finish your website, but you are paying avg. $25 per click for that. We will do that at first, but as time goes on, I will bring you up to "here" and I point to the Google places and then the regular results. I explain that the fee he pays me will pay for my time and work that goes into making his website get in there, but then that he doesn't pay $25 per click anymore.

As I was explaining that, is the one time I mentioned the word SEO, when I explained for 30 seconds "How Google Works" i.e. that it is a reputation system with the number of links and quality information serving as a signal to Google as your legitimacy and quality.

TL;DR - No need to explain SEO when you explain how the engine runs.

Building a website is all I really told him about to get the meeting. But what anyone really wants when they want a website is MORE CLIENTS. If you tell someone you can bring more clients through their door, they will pay you handsomely. So I am now going to do everything I know to get him more clients. I have his credit card number and I as long as I seek approval beforehand he will pay for what I request. I am going to use Adwords, Facebook Ads, citation services, SEO for his search terms in english/spanish, etc.
 
Congrats! How did you come up with a price? Let's say it's for Mom & Pop restaurant? Would you charge less/more? Thanks for your help.
 
How did you find him and get your foot in the door for the pitch? Are you a patient of his and started talking that way?
 
did you go there with some presentation about his business online presence and how his competitors are using it?

Was he referred by someone or did you directly call him?

If he is a chiropractor, what are you going to set up in the landing page in the form of lead or online appointment or what?

are you charging him $25 per click and if so did you mention that you are going to spend extra $$$ per day for his marketing and he will have to pay them extra with his credit card ( which i guess you already have)?
 
I was explaining what I do for a living to my dentist last week and she tried to hire me - I don't like having clients/commitments though which is why I'm in IM in the first place so I politely turned her down :D

Congrats though, $1k a month + expenses is a good rate for 1 client looking to rank locally!

For a Chiropractor he is a terrible speller, lol. He spelled One Thousand as Ome Trnl. Did it clear?
 
There are plenty of "Chiropracticiners" to go around...I say OP reigns Hell Fury on all the "chiropracticiners"
