I just bought an Escort Directory website that has an average of 5,000 visitors per day...

    Hello all,

I lurked around a bit and found great thoughtful intense conversations on this board and would humbly like to join the fray as a doe-eyed newbie in this world of making money off the internet.

About myself, I work as a business analyst for one of the major financial institutions in Canada and I also co-own an escort agency (not that hard to do in Canada, plus pretty girls don't like guys without money, so the daytime job alone doesn't cut it). In my past I have DJ'd for about 12 years, worked in small business as well as corporate, have great accounting and finance knowledge, and I'm pretty good and video shooting and editing. I could go on but needless to say, I live by the credo "If the ladies don't find you handsome... they should at least find you handy" :).

I just bought a website that is an Escort Directory that specializes in the Fetish niche and has been in existence since 1999. It get's about 5,000 visitors per day without having to do any marketing based on only a dozen ads for fetish escort providers here in Ontario Canada. Because escorts get reviewed on discussion boards, and they do their own marketing, it drives traffic to the board to view their information.

The other important thing to know is that, in the Greater Toronto Area (population of about 10MM people), the site ranks very high on Google. When you search "Fetish Escorts", it comes up #1. When you search "Fetish Escorts Toronto", it comes up #4.

The previous owner did not have time to focus on the website and operated at the bare minimum of effort until he decided to sell it to me at a very nominal fee.

My objective is to grow the number of advertisers who pay monthly to advertise on the site. I also want to add a blog which will have articles written by the advertisers. I would also like to add a current events page so that people who are looking for Fetish events wills tart to come to my site every week to see what's going on in the city.

In consideration of all of this, I would like to take advantage of the traffic coming to the site by earning PPC and affiliate revenue without blowing up the site with banners.

The advantage i see is that most of the traffic to the site are users who are interested in fetish, rather than just the general public, so it would be safe to say that the visitors would all have similar interests to the content.

I would appreciate any feedback you have, as well as a good strategy to proceed. I am willing to put in the work and know it will take time and I'm a fast learner, I just would like to make sure I'm heading down the right track.

Thanks in advance for your contributions,

    Cheers.

The site looks well designed so whoever owned it before has clearly been keeping it up to date, especially if they have owned the site for over a decade.

Maybe I was being a bit blind, but I could only see a page with about a dozen escort listed, is that right?

Yes, that's correct. They pay between $30-$50/month so I make right now about $400/month from the ad revenue. I plan to approach many other Fetish escorts in Toronto and hopefully can get up to about 40 or 50 ads in about a year.

Also, to anyone who has pm'd me, I cannot reply until I have over 15 posts to my name, so please do not hold any grudge to my delay.

That being the case, I'd say there's a lot of potential.

My first focus though would be ramping up the numbers of escorts on the site - without them you have nothing and your other plans for the site become pointless.

I'd take a good look at every competitor in the area and see what is good and bad about their sites - in that process you will also be able to gather details of lots of escorts you can approach about your site.

I'd also find all the fetish clubs / parties / organisers and go and meet with them - not necessarily to sell advertising (but that would flow on naturally), but to get as much information about the scene as possible. The more you know about the industry the better your site will be.

Basically, I'd focus on improving the site and what it offers first and think about revenue and profits later.

Thanks very much for your input. My plan with the Fetish Clubs/Parties/Organizers was to put up a page with a Calendar of events and invite them to post their upcoming events for free for the first 6 months to generate regular incoming traffic. I just have to prepare a form email for them to fill out so I can get all the info I need to properly advertise their event. Also I was going to get a Twitter account and have one of those "Submit your tits" pages of candid shots from escorts who wanted to get noticed.

The calender is a good idea and will definitely drive traffic. Those guys will check the site out to be sure, so you also want to focus on increasing the number of escorts on there as a matter of urgency.

I'd consider reducing the price to escorts as well to get the numbers up.

Although the site is Fetish focussed, don't restrict yourself to Fetish escorts - the more of them on the site the better. Most escorts will have some minor fetish they cater to, so they are all potential customers.

Very true, many of them do Foot Fetishes because it's so easy :p. At the same time as I develop, I would also like to learn about PPC and Affiliate opportunities. I checked SexandSubmission which has content I respect, however, they only offer payouts on memberships. There are some links right now on the site, but they don't have any formal revenue sharing relationships set up at the moment. I want to add some PPC links that will start to generate revenue, even if a little to get things going and get my feet wet.

I did set up an affiliate relationship with PinkCherry. I did put a small banner on my main page. My next step was to start a blog and actually physically order from them and write about the experience and talk about when I ordered, how long it took to arrive, and what the package looked like when it arrived to give readers a first hand look at a personal experience of ordering from PinkCherry. With a banner in the blog post, I would hope that would generate some sales.

Does anyone have any reccomendations of sites who offer good PPC systems that link to fetish websites?

    Your joking right?

I just pulled his site off of google, and no offense, but its pretty shitty. How much did you end up paying for that? I mean thats a 30 min site, and not a good one at that. You are going to have a hard time getting people to pay to be listed on there.

Are you sure you're getting 5000k a day? your alexa rank is over 9 million.

Clear to see you come from a finance background "10MM" ;) . Well done on your latest investment, it sounds very promising and was something I was interested in doing for years now but competition is incredibly fierce (and potentialy violent if you own an actual agency) in my area. An additional revenue stream would be to set up a premium rate SMS service, whereby visitors to the site can request the contact/booking details of the escorts by texting their number to a premium rate shortcode. By allowing the escorts to advertise for free, perhaps you could ramp up the interest to the site and make a passive income through the SMS service alone once traffic numbers are high enough, which by the sounds of things, you aren't far off.

If you're interested, I'd be very keen to go out and sell ads for a cut if it's something you might consider? Best of luck with this anyway, seems like a very solid plan.

Have you considered adding fetish / porn site signup ads. They pay very well per signup.

Quick question, are you making money off of the escorts themselves on that website?

    1. Get more escorts to list, quickly. Offer them their first month or two for free. If you can get them to agree to a slight discount if clients mention your site, so much the better, so they'll be inclined to remain paying customers after the first month or two.
    2. Add categories and separate listings for escorts in each different fetish - the services can choose their categories to be listed in, and eventually you can charge more for each listing.
    2. Make the site stickier and more SE friendly by adding resource content: "What To Expect When You Call An Escort Service" "What Services Can An Escort Provide" etc.
    3. Directory visitors are probably not going to join a paysite. Add fetish-related ads for cam sites, dating sites, things they can't find for free.
    4. Add the parties section ASAP and eventually charge for listings there as well.
That's just a start. Good luck.
