Hello everyone I just bought my FIRST website ever and I am.... at a loss. I honestly don't know where to start.. how can I begin to customize my website? I thought I would just go to my domain name and do something there but that is definitely not the case. I bought my website from namecheap.com I'm trying to create an ecommerce type site. So how exactly do you get started on building your page?

Did you bought a domain or a website?
For me it sound you bought a domain.
Well I always start from the idea what will I sell or offer with my site.
From there you will know what kind of site you will build.

It seems you haven't done any good preparation before purchasing the domain.
Do your homework first than you might the better idea.

    My suggestion is
    1. Find the niche , product, or service you want to sell or offer
    2. Find several keywords with low competition related to your niche , product, or service
    3. Write a quality article for each keywords and post them to your site (Instal WP - Find decent free themes and stat to post your articles)
    4. Do some social shares and some slow back links
    5. Repeat

Hello yes thank you for your reply I appreciate it. I understand every step but 4, How exactly do I go on about customizing my website if all I bought is a domain name? I didn't know there was a difference.

Okay so you got a domain. Now you've to get hosting. I would recommend hostgator plan for a starter. It's 1 cent for the first month. :) Make an account on hostgator, pay for it. Now go into your control panel and there you would have an option to install wordpress. Installing wordpress is very easy, you just need to make a few clicks and then your site is ready and you're ready to post. I did not go into the details, sorry for that, but you can easily do the things said above. I was able to start my first site within a couple of hours although I had no idea what to do. :)

Dude - I'll get you set up with your site and all for free. Although I am not a fan of hostgator at all, Max Parker makes a good suggestion to get the .01 plan and then go from there as for a new person in the industry that is a good idea.

But if you want some free help to get you going after you buy your hosting, shoot me an email - greg@ypick.me - and I'll help you with the process of setting up the site... again - no charge.
