It seems like everyone who dares to move a step up and start their own business as a full time SEO firm or consultancy experiences some form of success. I don't really see anyone who has outright failed in that area. Perhaps because its an almost limitless market, or because those people who dare to step up and use all their black, white, offline, and online tools to succeed are much more proactive and mentally positive than those people who are scared and afraid to take a risk.
    What do you guys think?

Well tbh you dont hear people fail in it because the ones that do fail they havent invested much into it. You don't really need to do, you could start your own firm for 10 dollars (even tho it probably wont be that great) but you can, and those are the ones that fail. The big SEO firms usually have different things on the side that they make profits from. Most SEO companies offer other services that help them keep afloat.

But yea most webmasters change when they see theyre losing profits.

Lots of people fail because they don't treat it like a business. If you man up and get your shit done, you'll be able to succeed just like bazillions of other entrepreneurs have in the past.

I think, rather, we've never seen someone post about not succeeding at starting an SEO firm. I'm sure someone's failed at it, for one reason or another, but maybe hasn't posted about it.

However, it does seem hard to fail. Anyone who reads this forum could probably put together a quick blurb to spout off to a potential client to make it seem like they know what they are doing, so it wouldn't be hard to pick up clients, given the limitless market you've mentioned.

Eventually, this will catch up to them and they will lose clients, but no one says, "I made it seem like I knew what I was talking about, picked up some clients, and lost them all!" Instead, they post about their success and only their success.

That's all speculative anyway. It's possible that everyone who posts about success here has legitimately achieved that success. However, there are people asking all the time how to start SEO firms. Statistically, I assume a lot of them lose clients or the owners eventually give up before landing a client, but they don't post about it usually.

Of course SEO firms have failed. You just haven't heard about them is all as people don't usually like to discuss failures.

As long as you treat it like a business, you can do well. Also be sure you know what the hell you are doing. Don't sell snake oil or hot air.

Sure they all woke up and stopped trying to sell broke ass consumers shit they don't need or can afford. They target businesses who have real revenue coming in. So a real business can throw $X,XXX at their marketing and not sweat. As long as they see a return on their investment that made more than they put in they keep it up.

    it's a tough gig.

Doing the SEO is the easy part, keeping a full book of customers is the painful bit.

I'd only do it again if partnered with a gun salesperson.

Starting a SEO firm isn't a big deal at all. The big deal here is to get clients and for that you need good sales person. There are many companies who just fake their clients on their site saying they have worked with fortune 500 companies and blah blah. But not all succeed in getting clients and even if they get its not easy to sustain them as you need to literate them about SEO so they keep patience to see some results

If you are planning to launch a SEO firm then go for it. Don't look around what others have done or not. Steve jobs never looked around and searched for other companies successes or failures..Just do what you can and see what actually happens...In other words "Take some fukin action" :)

I agree, with any business its all about getting the clients. No clients = failure.

When someone figures out how to get the clients, let me know because I have sent over 1000's letters out and have yet to hear from any of them.
