After working through my competitors' backlinks on Majestic, I came up with a list of hundreds of blogs. These are all related to my niche and obviously approving comments. However, it would take weeks to personally comment on all of these individual blogs. Are there any services on here that will comment to custom lists, or do I have to learn a tool like scrapebox?

I've done some searching, but no luck.

If these are "real blogs" with "real comments", then I would highly recommend hiring a writer on Elance and tell them to leave an intelligent 3 - 4 sentence reply. These are quality links and can boost your rankings fast and you want to make sure they are approved. I found writers to leave comments for around $1each if you supply them the list. Just post an ad looking for a writer familiar with your niche topic and tell them you have a list of posts and all they need to do is leave an informed 3 sentence comment on each post and you will pay $12 - $15 per hour which means they hold be able to do 12 per hour ($1 each).

But if these are spam comments, you can ask some of these comment service peeps in the link-building thread and they will do it. Here is a link to an SEO VA that will do all types of SEO work for dirt cheap

I would pick out the non-spammed ones and leave manual comments on them, however if you want to automate it then nhgjob gives you some good tips.

you could use scrapebox to post comments on those blogs

Do it manually or hire someone to do it. There is no point in using Scrapebox to submit the same spun comment over and over again, if you are thinking long term.

You'd better manual to personally comment rather than use scrapebox

This is a White Hat SEO part of this forum :)

Depending on where are the links from, it would be a good idea to outreach those people linking to your competition and for example create some good content for them. There are tons of options, but commenting is definitely a 2009 solution...

Creating solid content directly for the blogs makes a lot of sense.

In your opinion, how would one determine the quality of a blog? Is it simply a matter of page-rank esque factors, or should I target blogs that are more exclusive in their selection of outgoing links? To cover both bases, perhaps I should have comments placed. Then go through and find the blogs that didn't comment and offer them content.

Or you could just setup a gmail address that matches his site and send a request to all on the list from "him" saying that he's had a google penalty and would like those links removed.

That's evil! How do you come up with such ideas!
