I live on the southern coast of Long Island New York and we have now officially been ordered to evacuate due to Hurricane Irene. I'm thinking about toughing it out and trying to get some crazy video footage of the storm just for the hell of it. Anyone else in the same boat? Maybe I'll post up some footage and Pics on this thread if I stick around.

don't play with your life man, it's not worth it. Go somewhere safe and continue doing business. What you think you will acomplish with some youtube videos ? For people like me in Europe to watch it and say "oh damn that sucks, well lucky me no hurricanes here !" ?

Sticking it out didn't work so well for the people caught in Katrina.

Your youtube video will get ripped anyways so it is not worth it :) But in the otherhand if you can build up concrete and steel reinforced cam station thing which is anchored 5m to underground, set it on and evacuate... it will do video for you + you are going to live another day.

I think you should evacuate, as your life is more important then making some videos!

Thanks Guys, I do appreciate your advice. So far my plan is to hang in as long as I can. There is no getting off this Island anyway, there are really only 2 roads out and they are in the center of the path of the storm. The best I can do is go a little further toward the center of the island which still wont take me out of the way too far. Long Island is only 20 miles wide at its widest point. I happen to live right on the shore but I do have the benefit of a small barrier Island a mile or so off the shore which will provide some protection against the ocean (hopefully). Whatever I decide to do I will update as I go along.

LOL that's proper IM - life in danger, but you are considering making youtube videos - see if some good exact match domains are available, start a blog, put some Ad$en$e ads into the blog and videos, create a twitter account and spam twitter with relevant hastags and links to your blogs/videos - before you know it you'll be on CNN as their correspondent :D

@adbot since your in the evacuation zone you should leave,a few youtube videos isn't worth risking your life for.

HurricaneIrene.com is already taken, and the owner isn't monetizing it,it was for another Hurricane Irene btw.

you should evacuate as requested. do not justify why you want to stay there.

you only live your life once... everything else can be rebuilt.

This fool ass friend of ours lived in a red zone of Florida around 5 years ago when Florida was getting mega storms like
raindrops. His area was evacuated but he refused to go. His wife and buddies left and took one of his little boys. He stayed
at home with the other little guy drinkin six packs, smokin la and watchin a dvd of Twister laughing at all the suckers who evacuated for nothing. :pirate:
In the middle of the movie he heard a sound that was like SCREEEEEECCHHHED. WTF! He ignored & kept watching the movie. Again he heard that sound and the house rumble so he grabbed his shot gun and his kid and ran for the bathroom draggin whatever else he
    could with him.
He looked back over his shoulder as he ran and saw half of his roof pulled clear off and his new large flat screen being sucked
out of the hole in the roof. He, his little son and his shot gun spent the rest of that storm laying in the bathtub with a quilt over their
heads. Lost the house and some dogs.

Katrina hit as a category 5 hurricane, Irene will be lucky to still be a category 1 when it hits NY. That matters most for people > 10ft above sea level. Satellite images make it look like you could be in for a good flood if the storm surge hops that barrier island, and while the inlet is a bit away from you, they have a habit of letting water in but not out causing more flooding.

guys like 2 weeks ago it was just a lousy thunderstorm and the drainage couldnt take it. flooding, power outages for some ppl ... the infrastructure is weak so it might not be about immediate hurricane impact but power outages, flooding ...
