I think there a a cpl of drawbacks to this and some good advantages.

Drawbacks being music is fucking competitive I imagine- although he tells me (and I know from his personality) that what he's doing is pretty niche- he says a cross between indie and hip hip- so maybe it can be turned into an advantage.

He told me he had done a cpl of performances at local hotspots and got a newspaper write up bigging him up or soesuch.

Advantages for me would be I know he will be making quality content so dont have to worry about that side and that it's a quality product.

So for music what would be some good ways to go about it as we informally discussed a JV and Im interested in seeing how realistic it would be.

He already mentioned twitter and how he likes that. I havent done any twitter except for screwing around with tweet attacks and giving up thinking it not worth my time at the time going back to SEO altho I'd be wiling to give it a shot.

Im thinking maybe social media might be better than SEO for the music niche.

Thoughts on viability and possible directions to take it?

I think you have to go the 'Social' tour. E.g.:

    • Setup a nice website, let them hear some sample songs
    • Create a nice 'Buy my music' page
    • Create a Facebook Fanpage
    • Go on to Twitter, eventually with a program like Tweetattacks Pro
    • Do Twitter naturally(!) dont spam it to much, real peoply like to get treated like real people, not computer bots
Hold on, you will get succes:Look in this main forum for the topic called: BlackHat Sucess: Never give up!

Hit the thank button if you like my hints :)

I dont know that biz but I would spread a couple of songs for free. Youtube, Facebook, Myspace, last.fm, and other communities.

    Contact music-blogs, post on forums....

Post songs on ArtistServer.com and similar websites. Contact Internet-radiostations in the same genre and try to get them to play the songs.

Find popular Youtube-videos in the same genre and post a reply-video so it gets listed under the popular video.

Ask PirateBay if they could promote his album by putting it out for free. (they've done this with several artists, they changed their logo and send it to the torrent)

Just get as much exposure as possible. If people like his music they will listen to it and spread the word to their friends.

How are you intending this will make money? Is he looking for national work or local DJ jobs?

If it's for local DJ jobs, I wouldn't get my hopes up with a JV. Internet marketing on a niche scale is something you do for the whole nation, not to get local gigs.

If you're looking to do something for a national audience, you can create youtube videos. Then promote them with vagex. The SEO of youtube involves getting views to your videos, and vagex will allow you to trade views with other people. Let it run all night on your computer and your friend's computer when you're sleeping. Then put all the views you get for trade on his videos.

Once his videos get these scripted views, youtube and Google will think its more important and give it more natural traffic.

Ye not really sure atm but I was thinking whatever is closest the my current seo skills- using bots, automation programs etc.

In terms of audience not sure about that either, I think he was implying national and from a JV perspective I think that would work better- rather than me promoting him to get gigs locally. So national promotion with links to products and such I guess.

    Home Page:
Social Networking is a great way to spread music.

Something that has recently hit the UK is a part of Radio 1 which allows unsigned bands to submit their tracks to Radio 1. Radio 1 go through and find one they like, and the next day they are interviewed and featured on the radio, A lot of the stuff has been good so far and it is probably getting them a lot of recognition. Besides this the best way to get heard in the music biz from what i know is gig gig and gig more.

I'm doing this actually. I also have a friend who produces music/remixes.

    1. He sends them to me
    2. I make a nice video out of them
    3. upload to youtube
    4. promote with Vagex
    5. promote a Website I have set up in the video's description (free dl at ...)
    6. get traffic to your website
    7. monetize the website with cpa offers for the free download
    ;)

That is entirely brilliant. I've read of people doing that before I just hadn't remembered it until you said that just now.

This is a successful plan for sure ... just make sure the CPA offers allows incentivized traffic.

If you are giving stuff away consider paywithatweet.com.If it catches then it can go viral. I do my own music and the older stuff I just give away, I like the idea of lots of people having direct access to it. Newer stuff I am looking into ways to monetize.

Check out Ronald Jenkees on youtube, he's got it right.

I am thinking Youtube, but then Youtube was a lot easier to manipulate just a year ago. In those days you could just embed the file in lots of channels, set it to autoplay. Then harvest the friends lists of other channels that have the right demographics. Then build a script to do max amount of friend requests per channel. About 1/3 of friends requested would go check out the channel. Each visit counted as a video view.

Failing that, I suggest comment spam on videos that are in the same niche.
