For example, would "Purchase the books here" be better than "Get the books here"? What would be better in terms of SEO and also the way it is perceived. "Get" seems less intrusive, but I'm just not sure if it would lead to more sales. Also, I have a feeling that the word "purchase" would help with SEO. What are your thoughts?

In my opinion I would say "View" or "Receive" rather than "Get" or "Purchase", Also, i have no idea if Purchase actually helps for SEO, but I think View is the best possible option. They will see the ability to purchase and to get it and youll get more clicks through view just by simply having people wanting to View the product.
