Hi there, I've started a youtube review series but after looking at my first video I've realised that:

    1. My webcam quality is bad
    2. My voice is terrible (not very professional sounding, unclear, and heavily accented)

Does the first point matter if I'm going for an honest testimonial viewpoint anyway?
And does anyone have any tips on how to improve your voice? Maybe someone has done a course on this kind of thing.

    Cheers,
    karen

Noboduhy likes his own voice on record thats a fact, if your doing review typr of video i dont think it maters that much, it can be even miore real and convincent to viewers. You can always go to fiverr and hire a voiceover for your videos and compare and tests results

Don't mean to be harsh but it'll be very hard to succeed under your circumstances, I advice you get a better webcam.
Try to sound more professional, speak slowly and make sure that your words are clear and understandable.

The higher the quality of your review videos, the more likely you are going to succeed.

its less than $100 dollars for a hd webcam, even a decent handheld hd video camera that can fit on a stand is less than that. Don't give yourself any excuses.

Thanks for advice. It's probably worth investing in a good webcam if I plan to see this through into a full series so that's that point sorted.
As for the second one, I guess I'll just have to practice speaking as clearly as possible.

Never mind it buddy, people are succeeding with just screenshots review videos not with a camera and voice.
As someone here said, no one likes his own voice so just go for it.
My advice to you is that you create always two different review videos for the same product, you can do one with cam and voice over and the other one do it with just screenshots, photos and without voice over.
After some time you will see by yourself which ones from them converts better and stick with the best converting one... ;)
    Cheers

You could hire someone from fiverr to do the video or voice over for you.

You will definitely need a decent camera and microphone.

Depending on who you are trying to market to your accent shouldn't be too much of a problem (unless it is very very strong Glaswegian). If it is very strong then just get somebody to record the voice-over.

    Good Luck

    A fact?!

I personally love my voice and think I sound and look great on video.

What is a fact is that most people see the world as they are and not how it really is. We project our own likes/dislikes/fears and assume it's the same for everyone else, when in reality, everyone sees things very very differently.

Hi, I'm from near Glasgow. My voice isn't too glaswegian though, I'm told it's a bit posh lol. But for the American market it's probably pretty rough sounding.

My boyfriend suggested a fake American accent, but I think that would be even worse!

besides practicing, your best option would be to pay for someone else to voiceover your videos. try craigslist, odesk, fiverr

The tips posted above are worthwhile, and +1 for audacity
and you could also checkout sites such as udemy.com for fr*ee courses on voice training...
also, get your BF to do the techie stuff and get him to help you,
if it all to much of a pain, then just freelance the projects out as suggested above.

Then get the numbers increased and make some $$
    Cheers
