The agency I am going for an interview at called me today, to go over my skills. I can do everything they ask but my only weakness GOOGLE ADS!

I have run Google Ads a long, long time ago but I did not pursue it, due to the costing factor of Google Ads. In some ways, I regret not been so pro-active in this area of marketing, as I shine in a lot of other ways. However, the agency "marketing manager" seems to be making a big deal on Google Ads for there clients.

In terms of knowledge, he didn't seem to be so savvy in other fields I excel in.

Seems to be a PPC guy. Nothing wrong in that.

I want to impress in this interview, can anyone share any ebook/videos/courses/threads or anything else, that would bring value. I have 6 days to get my game face on and study. I really would appreciate help on this. A lot of there clients are in the health niche he said.. So I guess I need to figure out how to please him in this arena.

Ultimate Google Ads Training 2021: Profit with Pay Per Click by Isaac Rudansky (Udemy) is pretty good and well organized.

Good luck with the interview!

oof I gotta be honest. No book is going to teach you what you need to know you have to learn by actually doing it. Try running campaigns on google to some affiliate products it can be anything at any price it doesn't matter. That will teach you more than any book can.

If you are expected to be a performance marketer on google then you are going to have to work all day every day testing as much as possible. If the offer and lander are out of your control then focus on the ad itself. Targeting and all the other things are far less important than just having an engaging ad.

You can literally never predict what ad will win. You can put up 50 ads and you will almost never be able to pick out the best performer as there are so many factors at play. You have to throw as much at the wall and see what sticks. Don't be scared of burning money you have to pay to play and the faster you learn what works the better.

good luck.

I agree with what your saying and I most definitely need to get more hands on experience. I have a couple of clients I do SEO for, I'm thinking off doing some form of lead gen for there business as practise runs.

In all honesty, what time frame would you say it would take to get a good grasp on Google Ads ? I do have a bit knowledge but I mean, last time I tried Google Ads must have been 2014 - 2016 ish, somewhere between those dates. I know it has changed a little bit since those dates.

Can you recommend anywhere that has any golden nugs in terms of knowledge. As I really want to get this job! As I can use the funds, to fund other projects, so it's important to my growth. I'm willing to put the effort into study it.

It just depends on what the job expects from you.

Do they think you are a performance marketer that knows what is firing on google right now and want you to come in and drop their CPAs in a month or 2 or you're fired? Or do they just expect you to know how to make a campaign and plan on giving you some sort of guidance or training to milk clients for the percent fee they charge to make mediocre ads that don't even need to necessary be that great at all as long as the client is clueless.

The one nugget I can give you is I know guys in the past year or two that have absolutely crushed on YouTube. So if I were in your shoes running google ads I would focus only on YouTube. I would also follow the structure of the ads that work on YouTube which is video ads that follow the structure of "This (insert Ivey league school here) student invented a way to do X and Y out of his dorm room" built with a.i. voice over and text overlay. You've prolly seen the ads if you've spent any time on YT.

I think they are just looking for people that know how to setup a campaign for clients really and bring a ROI and setup lead gen type ads... but exactly what type of ads do you use for lead gen ?

If I were you I would get an ad spy and look at what they or their competitors are currently running to lead gen landers. It sounds like you know the products so either use bigspy or do try search terms on google or make new accounts to get served the ads. I find doing this is always better than using an adspy as they are just never as good as doing it yourself but they still work to some degree.

Copy all the ads they are running and then mix in variations of that and optimize that way.

Even if they tell you not to copy your peers or competitors ads don't listen you have to work a baseline and go from there it's really dumb to just try to guess what could possibly be better than what people have been optimizing for years. At the end of the day all that matters is performance so do whatever you have to in order to get the best performance even if it means using coworkers ads and running them over.

it's changed a lot since then man. things i wouldn't have ever done in 2016 are considered best practice now. even the name changed :D
for a week learning it'll be hard to impress anyone that has worked with google ads before, but hope you ace your interview either way

What is hard about it? Just look at few youtube tutorials. It takes 10 minutes to get started. And also there is no better or worse way to perform Google Ads. There is no secrets. You just have to find a low competition niche and that's it

It's business as usual, but with more emphasis on audiences and automations, I would not highlight the performance max ad format because most advertisers are not happy with the actual cost of acquisition and the way it is attributed.

Well i think fb itself has courses on how to run facebook ads or learn from other sources etc
I am thinking that you can be sincere amd tell the employer that you dont have so much experience in this field and to have some petience with you until you learn it fast
But i will advise you to think very well what you want to do

This is the most boneheaded clueless take I've seen in my entire life. Makes sense its a new account.

If it's that simple why are you on here shouldn't you be busy making millions/day on YT?

It is because people with no experience do not know what they actually do not know. Only when you start learning do you realize how clueless you are in such complex topics.

In all honesty, G ads is probably the simplest of PPC platforms out there. I'm confident after a couple weeks of action you'll be certainly proficient enough

There is though a few key pillars to maybe go over:

You want to run 4 major campaigns - search, remarketing, shopping (if applicable) then a mix of niche search and dynamic campaign (the 'general search' top performers go into the 'niche search' campaign after good results). Youtube all of these and get yourself up to snuff on how these campaigns operate. It's fairly simple.

You want to be proficient in keyword research to identify any keywords gaps and also some easy targets that aren't currently being serviced. Again, pretty easy, extremely similar to seo optimisation

You want to CRO the living shit out of the main landing pages these keywords are targeting, again a bit of research required but not that hard. This is absolutely the biggest downfall of most agencies and PPC buyers and is, in my opinion the single most important factor.

Performance max every campaign, for the first 2 months you want all campaigns set to maximise conversions. You can then start budget capping and max bid capping certain keywords but without the data of 60 days in max conv this is useless. Youtube this, very important to set this up correctly.

Also, check the domain names aren't being bid on by competitors, if they are, outbid them for the space. Runs huge ROIs super quickly, so if you want to impress this is always first point of call (little bit of a grey area).

Start youtubing these key pillars, everything can be understood from a couple youtube videos, certainly enough to get the job. Once your on the job experience trumps all, you'll figure out the optimal way to tackle and small optimisation changes you can make to these campaigns to improve the performance.

Don't get flustered, it's really not hard atall its just alot of info to take in.

I just love how he says "there is no better or worse way to perform Google Ads."

Can't think of better proof he has never used Google Ads than saying something that stupid.

I think this is a super key point and stands for all PPC traffic generation across all platforms. You don't know what you don't know, and what you don't know is the reason their campaigns perform terribly.

Then they blame the platform.

In reality, I don't think there is a PPC platform out there that, with a little bit of work, can't reach a 8-10x ROA consistently. Which is imo, a fucking goldmine.

People just don't want to put the work in and don't want to admit they aint smart enough to figure it out.

I'll let the newcomer spin his wheels pretending he knows what he's doing.
