    Hi,

    Intro:
This journal is a bit different as I don't really do any shady blackhat, affiliate marketing gimmicks. Six months ago I quit my comfy office job as an SEO manager to look for new opportunities in the job market. Looked and interviewed for a few spots but each looked more meaningless than the last one. Working from 8-to-5 and making money to other people, is this how I envision my life? I thought about it for months until two months ago I pulled the trigger and started my own marketing agency. I have an extensive background and killer portfolio in SEO but attempting to offer full-marketing-agency level services.

I like the idea of marketing agency because it is reliant on my own skill-set and it requires no start-up capital. For me, it's a true digital agency, no staff, no office, no lawyers, no accountant costs. What you see is what you get - straight results. This isn't a "get rich quick scheme" or "passive income", no, but I don't mind - it's something I am passionate about.

I plan to keep this journal to keep my lazy ass accountable.

    Numbers:
Month #1(June): 2 clients, net two deposits and misc expenses - $2,410
Month #2(July): 2 clients, net two monthly retainers - $3,600

    Monthly revenue: $3,600
Monthly expenses: SEO tools groupbuy, hosting - $99
    Monthly profit: $3,501

    Strategy:
The first question you must have is probably: how to get clients? Well, I have a few lead generation systems that I am still working on. I am not going to spill the beans completely but I utilize networking through Facebook groups by sharing a lot of free information and helping people for free until people approach me. My secondary method is LinkedIn, I target focus small-business owners and attempt to network with them. I've been doing it passively, but haven't begun sending out mails yet. I currently have 2500+ targeted LinkedIn connections. It's very easy to scrape the emails off LinkedIn through 3rd party tools. As for pricing.. pricing is tricky, I don't offer a flat package, it depends on the niche, work required, budget and competition.

    Plan for this month:
I finally got my website ready. I now have a digital presence and to be honest, I think it looks very slick. I don't plan on ranking the agency via Google but I have major plans for implementing a content strategy on it and share via social media platforms.

    Some thoughts:
Currently, I am doing all the work and at my current pace, I'd be able to serve 5 clients at a time. When I reach that point I will look into hiring someone digitally to start taking care of most time-taking tasks (probably a VA as a project manager and pay him/her very generously). Time management is currently my most important task as I spend a lot of time doing nothing. I use an agile workflow board to organize myself but have hard time on keeping myself accountable.

    Goals:
    • $5,000 monthly profit (estimated amount of clients required: 3)
    • $8,333 monthly profit (would make it a 6-figure business) (clients required: 4-5)
    • $83,333 monthly revenue (would make it a 7-figure business)

    Thanks for reading,
    Walt

That's cool. I'm also shifting a little bit from Affiliate marketing to Client SEO, although in my opinion there is more freedom in Affiliate marketing with no doubt.
I started pitching some clients from 2/3 months, got my first client for $1000 per month & currently I'm doing cold emailing to get more clients.

    Good Luck!

Sounds like you're willing do a lot of the hard work yourself (no shady gimmicks) - so may karma also be with you.

Thanks! Yup, two. Landed these before I even had a website. Facebook is a god blessing.

Good luck man! Cold emailing is a tough-tough business with low rewards!

    Good luck OP!
If you can take your time, you can also offer 1: 1 free phone or live Q&A sessions for your potential customers.
I had offered this twice a week and the results were very good.

Great question! I charge them a fixed monthly retainer. Based on my calculations and my value of work, by pure coincidence, I've billed them on $1800 their median average. Extremely different businesses, very different goals and fields. They have nothing in common. For one client I do strictly SEO (and develop and outsource full content marketing strategy) with focus on Local SEO. For the other one I also supervise ad campaigns, audit sales funnels and improve UX. Both take equally much time.

As far I am concerned, I am underselling my services by quite a lot but it's a start. I'm extremely hands on and provide full support, consulting, free advice and so on. I definitely bring more value than your regular marketing agency does.

edit: to reach my goal of 7-figures then I am forced to start pricing myself much higher.
