I have 81,000+ spam comments on my site, can I delete them all at once?

I have a site ranking #1 & #2 on Google for various different keywords.

But I accidentally forgot to shut off commenting on a lot of back pages.

And the site has been spammed to death with comments, its over 81,000 comments on the whole site.

If I use the "delete all comments" plugin to delete all those comments, will it have any negative impact on my site?

This may be a stupid question but I just want to make sure its ok to delete them all in 1 shot.

    Thanks.

Definitely delete all of the spam comments. Setup Akismet too if you want to reduce your spam by a lot. It helped my site reduce spam comments greatly.

You can delete them directely from mysql dababase : PhpMyAdmin.
Select all and delete , or
    execute a sql request : Delete * from wp_comment
    or something like that.

Install Akismet and enter the API key to make it functional. Then on comments page look for a button "Check for Spam" Click it.

This option will delete all the spam comments (Pending or approved) as per akismet databse.

Thank you guys! I have an update and never realized how important this is but listen to this!!!

I deleted all 81,000+ comments at once. Then today, 2 days later, EVERY single one my keywords that were at #2 (there was 5 of them) all shot up to #1 today!!! And on top of that many of my other keywords shot up as well! I always thought because comments are no follow that they didn't bleed much link juice. But when I saw how spammy it looked on my back pages, I suspected it couldn't be good.

I wanted to see if it had an effect first before I did anything. But now I can see it does make a huge difference. Thank you for the advice and resources. :D

    cheers

Now you know what SEO to do if your site ranks lower in future... delete ALL spam! lol. While spam keeps the page fresh for SE spiders (without losing the page-rank juice), its deletion makes them extra happy too.

Congrats on the new achievement! Prosper! :)
