Hi everyone. I am going to spend 24 hrs to do the right kw research. I've been using the Google kw tool (I also have MS). I want to make sure I am doing the right methods to make sure I get the best return on the kw I choose.

The niche I picked will be dealing with people buying a digital product. So I will use common sense along with my findings:

    In the Google Keyword Tool:
    - Set 10k as max exact search and 300 as the minimum exact search

Now this is the part I am having trouble with. I dont have sb, so is there another kw research tool (or ms I could use) I could use to do the steps below:

    - Export the data as .CSV and remove the keywords that have more than 100k - 200k results
    - Have a list of keywords that have between 300 - 10k exact searches and no more than 200k competition

    Thanks for all the advice.

You can do that with MS-Excel. Simply download your .CSV file from Adwords, and use some sorting and/or commands to filter out the data

Why not just use adwords? Set the filters as you need:
    < 10k exact global
    > 300 exact global
    < 200k competition

Then just do a search with a keyword from your niche and start going through the "Keyword Ideas" and "Ad group ideas". If you need more keywords just use a bit different seed keyword.

As for removing the ones with over 100k results...well you could do it manually if you don't have 500+ keywords. Don't know any tools that would do that automatically (scrape # of search results for each keyword).

This is just based on my relatively limited knowledge of Excel but couldn't you just sort the kw>100k and delete the rows above that amount? I'm also guessing that you could create a formula to negate results >100k or render them inactive (change their value to zero?). Formula could also be used to determine your secondary requirement but might require identifying competition according to G's labels (eg: low, medium, high) rather than numerical.

Thats what I was thinking, or using MS to do that. What I wanted to know is about this:

Whats the use of having/using sb then if you can do that in adwords?

And the niche I found, its a bit broad, but there are at most less than 500 kw.

I think this was before the keyword tool supported the "competition" column so you had to use SB for that.
Just do it with keyword tool alone and then manually go through the list. Enter each keyword in google and if it has more than 100k results just delete it from the .csv.

Well I understand the market, so I'm not new, and I want kw with less comp., but high search traffic. Shouldn't take less than 24 with 500-1000 kw at most.
