I have 2 related domains, how to merge them?

I have 2 domains. Each are 2 words and the first word is the same in both. They are similar domains and they would include the same content on each site. How can I have 1 site, but 2 domains? What would be the best, and most professional solution?

301 redirect for sure. If you put a similar content on both, you will get a duplicate content penalty (I got one) and then I did a 301 redirect and it worked like a charm.

Merging of domains may be a difficult process. You can have two separate domains maintained by an able domain provider.
