I got an interesting spam mail today.

Dear PayPal user,

As part of our security measures, we regularly screen activity in the PayPal system. We recently contacted you after noticing an issue on your account .We requested information from you for the following reason:

We have reason to believe that your account was accessed by a third party. We have limited access to sensitive PayPal account features in case your account has been accessed by an unauthorized third party. We understand that having limited access can be an inconvenience, but protecting your account is our primary concern.

Case ID Number: XX-XXX-XXX-XXX

This is a third and final reminder to access the following link and log in to PayPal as soon as possible in order to solve this issue.

did anyone else get similar mails? I got three of them in the last 24 hours.
How do they manage that the sender looks like a legit paypal address ('PayPal Open Cases'<[email protected]>)? ...just curious

When you use an external non-browser based email client you set what you want your name and from email address to be. I think anyone would be a fool though to click any link in any email like that though, even if it were legit when viewing the headers.

i get thoseall the time i just tossem in the trash

Yep, as I said in another thread similar to this:

PayPal will NEVER ask you to log in through a link in an email. They ALWAYS tell you to go straight to PayPal's home page and log in from there.

This is not really for the OP cause he obviously already knows this...but another member here got nailed this way recently. So if you didn't know...now you do.

Any time you get an email from paypal that you want to follow up on don't click the link: just close the email and login to your account the usual way. If it's legit and it's from them, trust me: when you login to your acct it will BE THERE IN YOUR FACE (in caps) AND YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO GET AWAY FROM IT WITHOUT CLICKING TEN LINKS AND CANCELING AND SAYING NO THANKS. OVER AND OVER. All pp users remember this. If there's an issue they'll let you know when you're in your acct. No need to click ANYTHING in an email from them. Hell, I don't even click links in receipts. Never never

I usually send mine to [email protected] and let them know and take care of it.
Not sure what paypal does but at least they know someone is trying to rip you off if you send to the above address @ paypal
