I get spike of page view in GA, could this be malware?

    So I have this wordpress blog and every now and then, it has this spike of page view from 10 page view per minute to 150+. It has happened twice already. Note not spike of visitors, but spike of pageview. That is the visitors number basically stays the same, but someone/bot just generating a lot of pageviews. Any thoughts? Capture.jpg

    Need more info.

    What are the referrers that are causing the large pageviews? That would be the first question to answer.

    Also, what kind of site do you run? Is it something that people would want to open many pages at a time?

    And I would check your pages headers for javascript injections.

    I just checked and I believe it is AppEngine-Google going to my rss feed url. I think I know the reason for the spike of pageviews now. I created an android app for my website a couple days ago and I believe this app engine google is crawling my site to update the app or something.

    Googlebot wouldn't show up in GA. Only users with Javascript enabled (spiders typically do not have javascript enabled.)

    Are these spikes showing in your long-term data or just the real-time data? Just curious.

    Yea thats what I thought, but I checked on my cpanel, on the exact time the pageview happens, a lot of this appengine thing is showing up. They are both in my long term data and real time data. I will upload another screenshot.

    Here is the page view in hours. The page view per visitor chart looks basically the same.

    Yea could be that app then.

    It could actually be a blessing though, increasing ad impressions and such..

    Yea thank you for your help. I don't want bot to be hammering on my server slowing down my site though. :)
