I had rent a car. Backed into the street from my driveway. Hit front bumper of neighbors car. His car is old full of dents and scratches. I gave bumper small dent. He had to leave and said he will call me. No info exchanged. He left.

I fixed the rent a car. They never found out!

For a month I'm trying to get a hold of him so I can give him some $. Finally I do and i asked him if he wants To fix the dent or get some cash. He says cash.

I offer him $200 or to fix the dent in bumper. He said he will call me back.

2 days later he calls and says he got estimate to fix entire plumber its $1,700.

I told him to take a hike. I'll give him $200 or $400 or fix his bumper.

He decided to call his insurance.

They call me and send me letter To contact them.

    Facts:

Rent a car was not insured fully.
    He didn't have the plates.
    Don't got my DL #
    It's been over a month.

Should I bother calling his insurance company ????

You NEVER admit fault when you get into an accident. EVER. Even if it clearly was your fault. People will always try and screw you over and they can use that against you.

Yeah. if he didn't get your info the first time he spoke to you, you should have just dropped it. The $1,700 is probably an estimate to fix ALL the dents. not just the one you caused. But body repair can be pretty steep too. Someone keyed my car across two panels and it was like $800 to fix.

Hey brother, deny everything. If it's not documented, then it doesn't exist! When you checked out at the rental company, and they said you're good. YOU'RE GOOD.deny everything. :)

Tell him it is $300 of nothing, that you have enough curtesy to keep calling him and that he should have cared more before, but if he keeps pushing he will get nothing as it isn't documented. If he is still pushy, just play the dick and say he is the one who bumped you and that he owes you $3400, he will get the point that he is ressourceless and how it feels to receive a scam attempt.

If you call then they will just want your full contact details, so they can go ahead with your neighbor's claim.

If you're planning to settle it with the neighbor directly, then don't agree to anything until you get at least 2 written quotes for repairing the damage.

If you're not planning to settle it then consider:
    - Were there any other witnesses?
    - Can the damage be traced to your car?
    - Do you get on well with the neighbor?
    - Are you planning on living there long? ;)

    - Were there any other witnesses? My wife :)
    - Can the damage be traced to your car? No. It was a rental
    - Do you get on well with the neighbor? Don't talk to him.
    - Are you planning on living there long? Not really

Looks like he's trying to sucker you out into getting his whole car repaired. I'm not sure what I would do but if he's taken this long to get back to you I would probably deny and ignore the whole thing altogether. Ignore him and his insurance company, just make sure he doesn't fuck you over.

Your first mistake was calling him serveral times to pay him even though he never came after you. Shit if someone hit my car id be all up in there ass with claims and shit!
Your second mistake was calling him serveral times to pay him even though he never came after you.
Your third mistake was calling him serveral times to pay him even though he never came after you.

Now, just ignore it intill they come after you, then deny it. If they come up with some shit just ask them to prove it. You should be good if you play smart.

But seems like your just too much of a nice guy and you'll probably cave in. lol

I dunno how it works there but here generally if you deny it happened and there is no police report they can't come after you. And since the other car is all fixed and stuff even if he called the cops I doubt they would be able to prove it was you or charge you.

Also $1,700 is not necessarily out of the question - this is why you're supposed to have insurance. Body shops charge a lot of money these days. There's parts, labor and matching the paint and remember the shops need to turn a tidy little profit as well.
