OK, just found a PR 6 expired domain at one of the registrar's auction, I am getting it for around $200, auction is still going on.
I just want to know what may happen if I buy this domain?
    1. Will the PR stay?
    2. Does it drop if I start my own website on it (Since the content is changing drastically)

I just did a little research about the domain, didn't found it to be associated to malicious or porn related thing.

I know that this auction may go very high as it is PR6, but I want to know some things about dropped domains so that I can decide my limits.
This is the first time I am buying a domain which is expired. Always bought fresh domains.

Also please advice me how can I use this domain to make most of the profit.

I may not have covered any area of advice, so you can pour in your advises about this, thanks in advance.

As and advice check the backlinks. If the content is changed, it is very likely that the backlins will be removed, and the PR will be lost. Build the site, create similar content, that way backlinks will remain and also PR and sell some links to make it profitable. Good luck

Check if those 16, will stick or not, if they are in homepage is likely they will not stick, the seller could have build the PR to sell it, and then remove the links. Links you can sell them here, or search in the big G, selling backlinks, you could make a couple of hundreds.

Its an aged domain around 7 years, and the domain is expiring so the seller is the registrar. Doesn't goes anything to the owner, plus the domain seems to be real authoritative as per the research I have done for it.

and thanks for quick tips. But I ma not sure how can I sell links on just a single domain as most of the seller here have multiple domains to offer their services.

Check for fake pagerank, check how many backlinks it has and the quality of the backlinks. A PR6 should have several PR1-5 backlinks. Check wayback machine for what the site contained previously. Check to see it is indexed in Google.

Its an expired domain which i am buying, that means, content has already been removed. And I cannot keep the same content.. Why would I? It is bound to change as i will launch new website on it.

Thanks for advice... all this done.. things are positive.

how many backlinks the domain is having.. and if possible.. check the quality of the links as well..

Thanks everyone for your help but I lost the race...
The price went up crossing $4500 and I moved out of the race.. :( could not afford to pay that much for a domain really.. :(
