Too much consumption and a life of partying really caught up to me.

I quit so I can get healthy, and especially so I can focus on I.M. more.

For a while, I drank a bottle of Smirnoff (700 ml) a day.

    :sour:

    Fun to some extent.

But eventually you wake up and realize you're a chemically addicted idiot.

    Blah

I got a stupid little tattoo with the date I quit (yesterday). To remind myself forever.

    Anyway:

Anyone want to share tips on sobriety / increased productivity / recovery?

I'd prefer not to end up like poor ol Amy Winehouse. (e.g. get sober, and then keel over after playing the drums... bummer...)

Any other teetotalers on BHW got a story?

    Thanks!

    Peace!

If you can, read the book The Easy Way to Stop Drinking from Allen Carr. I think it really can help you to stay sober. :D

    Good luck!

If you really want to stay away from drinking, get a hobby and stay away from people that drink I.E. bar, parties, till you feel stong enuff to hang with people that drink and don't need one yourself.

I found out for myself that I can't sit in a bar very long till that old feeling comes along (just one), just do whatever you feel will keep you away from the drink, and don't be scared to ask for help, and always remember thier is always a AA meeting going on somewhere in California with people that have been in your shoes

    Good Luck in your quest

The longer you remain sober, the better life seems to be. The chemicals in your brain start to work the way they are suppose to. I use to feel like the only way that I could or would feel normal was when I was drinking. Now I know that was partially true. I needed to drink in order to get the right chemical reaction in my brain so that I would feel good and normal. As time goes by, I now see that I can feel normal (even more 'normal' than when I was drinking), and even feel good because my brain is naturally producing the endorphins for me. Just stick with it. It gets better and better.

smoke weed you'll be too stoned to find the bottle if you put it anywhere that isn't out in the open. i.e. even in the cabinet. or just put a bag of Doritos in-front of the bottle, and you'll be safe. i also highly suggest finding a nice new tf-1000 basketball to play with while high.

ok um AA meetings of course, and idk if this would help but drink O'Doul's nonalchohol beer?! not sure honestly, goodluck!

In all seriousness it isn't a bad idea to find some spirituality as well. PM me your email and we can chat, sounds like we were in very similar positions.

    hahaa

ya well I actually find myself "judging people" already.

The last night I went out there was this blonde chick sitting next to me who was so drunk she couldn't understand how to pay her bar tab.

I just looked at her and thought:

"You know she could be kindof attractive. I wonder why she feels the need to do this to herself?"

And then I went back to drinking my beer number 16.

    haaaa

For the last month, i've come to really hate alcoholics. Eventhough I am one myself. But more than anything, I started to hate the idea of alcohol.

It's sad that we have to consume chemicals to deal with our own anxieties or boredom. Because when you're a kid, you don't need any of that to "be comfortable" or "have a good time."

Yeah i haven't had a drink in a month. Not that I drank much apart from on the weekends. Stopped smoking too.

I am very stubborn especially against myself. I will not give myself the satisfaction of going back on my word.

Couldn't find that genie in the bottle eh?

Congrats on taking the first step.

I had a grandfather that had a feeding tube because of his smoking and the hole in his throat from it but the alcohol went right down the feeding tube till the day he died. Pretty sad to see actually.

Commin up on my first week of sobriety now.

    yay

just wanted to add that getting this tattoo was the smartest fucking thing I ever did.

(I actually got this idea from Russell Brand -- who did something similar when he quit drugs and alci.)

but i've quit drinking before. And I'm 100% sure I wouldn't have made it past this week, if I didn't have a friggin date tattooed on my arm. (I just would have went to the store and said to myself: "next week... next week...")

Anyway, I don't really feel much of a desire to return to the old ways yet.

    Those thoughts usually come when:

    A: I go to a party.
    B: I come back from a party.
C: I walk past a club with pounding music.

Then my brain says "must drink"

    hah

But i'm sick of partying and clubs for now anyway so...life is easy

I havn't drank alot in about 5 months. I threw all my alcohol down the drain. I actually decided to give up drinking, because of this music video. Because i didn't want to end up old and alone like the dude in the video.
