There are different places in India, which are very modernized suburbs (and in sense, secluded)! :)

Thailand is the best price/quality wise, lived there for 3 years and it was great, you can live like a pimp for 2.5k$ / month
    your other options are:
Singapore (too expensive) / Philippines (you might get robbed/killed)

It all kind of centers around China, which is less communist than the United States in my opinion. The difference is the illusion of what you can own and what you can't. Your income definitely determines your lifestyle. You can live in a pretty nice place in Shanghai with other foreigners, likely American, Canadian, and English for cheap. We all seem to move out there and get an expensive apartment and slowly begin to find foreign roommates, even the wealthy. The more west you move in China from the coast, the cheaper it is. You could easily live on $800 USD a month, with enough money to eat healthy. Taiwan is pretty similar.

Thailand is great too, and a bit cheaper. There is a lot of crime, although people claim there isn't, but there is. If you know how to position yourself and live among different people, you will do alright. My friend lives there while he does his IM business from a very large apartment with a personal pool, and his wife teaches English in one of the rooms. He is from Orange County, so his lifestyle went from modest to living like a wealthy person in Thailand.

Vietnam is a great place you should look into too, it's quickly becoming a large manufacturing company that offers products and other things cheaper than mainland China.

Yeah nice but I know Thailand I miss it so much but CHina you have women and all that merchandise to sell

    Taiwan women and merchandise

Man such a dilemma for me
Mudbutt I was in Ho Chi Mihn city and I really hated it

Every few minutes in bars the locals kept coming up saying you want dope you want opium tapping sticks riding by and the anount of bikes was just ridiculous. Took half hour to cross the road. Plus for some reason I was invisible to the ladies

I was glad to get back to Thailand
My work friend is married to half Chinese half Malaysian but apparently not that good and the women ignore you a lot kind of like Ho Chi Mihn city LOL

I lived in Singapore for a while, if you want to raise a family and do some corporate work it's probably one of the best places in the world, very safe, everything works, nice chicks, etc. as mentioned however its expensive.

If you choose China you can go for Shangai, its an awesome city, great parties (bar rouge, etc.) and awesome girls, not cheapest place in China but much better than singapore.

Other than that go for thailand, seems like a lot of expats that do online work are moving there.

I travel around that area a lot, I love Southeast Asia. I'd say leave China alone, it can get cold up there too, unless you can find a nice place on the island of Haikou, the weather won't make it much good value.

Forget about Singapore, it's very expensive, but $400 per month can get you a very nice pad in Cambodia in a nice place, Cambodia is one of my favourite countries, very friendly people. My experience with Vietnam is limited, but I didn't get the good vibes from the Vietnamese as I did in Cambodia.

Malaysia is great, more westernised and quite cheap too, I stayed in a place there for $5 a night with free wifi. I love Thailand too, but that is getting more and more expensive, the exchange rate for Baht has got twice as expensive since I first went and when I went this year.

Don't forget about Indonesia, for renting apartments there are some amazing bargains for what you get, even still in Bali you can get a descent cheap room. If you don't fancy the hectic Bali, try hopping across to Lombok, it's more natural and unspoiled. What is also interesting, there are some places in Indonesia far away from westernised places with lightning fast dedicated satellite internet connections, because they have no lines, so they install the satellite!

    Good luck!

True - Vietnam is up and coming in the manufacturing realm... I think it takes more of a frontiersman's attitude to make it there (just my take)... a lot of these places have some nutty rules so it really depends on if you are just trying to do IM or start a physical business also.

You have to be careful in Thailand as well (as someone else pointed out some ugly shit happens there that doesn't get reported/get press)... if you start a business that encroaches on someone else's - watch out. Even down to the street level night beer tables that crop up on the streets at 10pm are run by ferocious women that are mafia linked.

Cambodia is also widely overlooked... great people - amazing places... less and less like the wild West all the time... stay out of trouble and do not get sick or injured... a close friend had a motorcycle crash in the outskirts of Mondulkiri - his burns/gashes were treated with brake fluid, but it did stop the bleeding.

good luck! - remember to diversify.
