Hello

I am absolutely new to ebay. I am continuously placing bids on a mobile phone. I have placed 7 bids but always I get Outbid. When I see the bids, all my bids are there but someones bid is always above me.
He has made just a single bid and the single bid always comes above me with .50 margin.

Eg. If I place a bid of $20, he jumps over me to 20.50. How is this happening?

Thanks

O.K. Here's how it works...

Say that guy's original bid was $50.00

If no one else was bidding, his bid would show up as whatever the starting bid was. Let's say $10.00

So you come along and see this guy has a bid in for $10.00 so you bid $15.00.

Since His bid was already higher, his will auto rebid taking it to $15.50.

To beat him you will need to enter THE MOST you are willing to pay for it. Let's say you're willing to pay $100.00 Bid that.

What will happen is, you'll take over, but it won't make the bid amount $100.00 but it will take it one 'tick' higher than his MAX Bid of $50.00 leaving you the High Bidder at $50.50

Then let's say at the last minute some other guy comes by and sees that you're winning at $50.50 he might bid $75.00. But you had already bid higher so you will jump back to the top with a bid of $75.50.

This is done so that you won't have to sit there right when auctions end trying to get a last bid in if someone outbids you.
Hope that helped.
