I believe that I may have "possibly" been scammed by a member here on the forum. My service was rendered with no up-front payment with the promise to pay upon completion. I've received no payment, I've messaged the user on Skype, they came on online, saw my message and then went back off line.

Do you think I should give them more time or does this sound like the typical scenario when someone is getting scammed?

The amount we're dealing with here is not a lot, for me it's just a matter of principal and I know BHW doesn't have a tolerance for scamming here.

Did you sell your service on BHW's marketplace?

No, it was a user who saw my response to a thread where the OP was looking to hire someone for a project. They contacted me for a job & I provided what I was supposed to as promised.

I can't say how this will be handled but in future, don't hand over something (product/service) before receiving payment. If you don't fulfill your obligations after taking a payment, the buyer has many options but in the other case (like this one) the seller has no options.

If it's not a big amount, I'd move on and be careful in the future.

The bad part in this whole situation is that the user whom I believed scammed me never contacted me through BHW. They simply added me on Skype using the Skype ID that I had posted on the thread and we communicated there.

You have to be carefull regardless if you are a buyer or seller here on BHW.. I have been scammed many times, the latest is one little fuck that tried to take my $6,25 for forum posting and run.. until I opened a dispute with PayPal he came back and started posting and told me story that is nothing else than crap.

I don't care about the $6,25 but it is like you said it's an matter of prinicipal.

There are many of them here on BHW you just need to take care when doing business with people.

Every one of us at one point has been scammed. It should be a lesson learned from the incident. Ask yourself? How can I avoid this from happening?
I even had an experience lately, it is from a person whom I know personally and who lives near me. He pays well and now its close to 2 months and $88 has not been paid. I have this gut feeling that it is difficult to get paid from him coz he always delayed for $20 payment for articles and when I asked for payment for $88 until now not paid.

One thing I have learned, don't chase orders, chase paying clients.

Agreed, sht list and you should be working in the marketplace with legitimate sellers otherwise these things happen. However once they happen outside the marketplace be sure to share his info all over bhw so nobody else is caught with their pants down too.

Time is the essence here. How long was it that you delivered the service, is the buyer aware that you already delivered what you two agreed upon? I would wait 1 or 2 days before starting anything, if it's already expired, you might as well SL the buyer.

Naming and shaming is the first part of it. You already have the link to shit list, I believe. For the future, start taking upfront payments, even if it's half of the total amount owed.

I fulfilled the order within three hours. Not only did I complete the order very quickly, I also over delivered on the order.

Anytime someone contacts you via skype about something you posted on BHW, ask them for their membername... and then have them send you a BHW PM just to verify. That way you at least have the recourse of taking it to a shitlist.

Without their membername, you cannot shitlist them because if you don't even know that, you have no way to say that it was done through BHW and no one to point your finger at.

In addition, you should deal with members via their BST or at least with members that have a history and many posts. Am I saying that all new members are out to scam you, no... but members with many posts and a long history have more to lose and generally wouldn't throw that away for a few bucks.
