I am miserably failing at buying shoutouts

So I bought shoutouts twice for my lifestyle/travel account. The last one was from https://www.instagram.com/destination_wow/ I bought one 5 hour feature, sent them a really outstanding picture with and guess who many followers did I get from this 158k followers account? One. I got one follower from this investment.

I am not sure what can be wrong, my content is original and different from most of the travel/lifestyle accounts on IG (in a good/interesting way). Maybe a problem could be that the account is pretty new and has ~100 followers, while following 40.

Any ideas what could be wrong? Any marketplace recommendations for future shoutout purchases?

    Thanks

Considering they only pull 2-4K likes from 160K followers you can guarantee a lot of those followers, are fake.
Even then id still expect you to gain more than one follower.

I'd like to say that the main reason for this is that your account doesn't have enough followers already; people are more likely to follow a lifestyle account with more followers than just ~100. My advice for you would be to grow your account to a couple of thousand followers at the very minimum before purchasing shoutouts as shoutouts will not be effective with a low follower count. Even then, I would've expected you to gain more than five at the bare minimum, but it seems the account that you bought the shoutout from does have fake/inactive followers.

+1 for probably mostly fake followers, I get way more engagement on a <50k travel account... I don't know how true this is but I read somewhere to only expect about 5% of likers to follow you

I got 150 followers or so when I shouted a new account from a 1.5k followers account so you should've obviously seen some more.

Really odd to only get one follower, would be disappointed with 100 but 1 would make me super skeptical. My guess is the guy has fake followers as others have suggested.

Maybe I should buy ~1000 fake followers just in order to make the account look better for the real ones? Also, is there a good marketplace where I could find legit sellers with real followers? Thanks!

How many followers do you currently have?
I would buy 100 fake followers at the beginning, then grow it manually to around 1k, then start buying shout outs. People will be more likely to follow you then.

However I also think that destination_wow has many fake followers if you only got 1 follower from the shoutout on their page. They might also be faking engagement (likes / comments)

That would definitely help! Making your account look established will help you in getting a lot more followers directly from your pictures itself. And after that, when you buy the shoutouts, the results would be a lot more better.

How much did you spend? It's very easy to spot the fake, I mean only about 20 comments?

yeah i own a 111K that only gets 1,400-2,000 likes per photo and even when someone buys a 24 hour shoutout from me, and i have all real followers since day 1 of 16 months ago, they gain like 60-100 followers, i wouldn't expect too much from buying shoutouts nowadays but one follower seems ridiculous, probably fake followers and fake engagement

    I have had similar experience.
I bought shoutouts from 3 different accounts with almost 300k total followers...got two total followers, I usually get about 6 just from posting a picture.

If the account's engagement per post isn't close to 5-10%, then it's mostly fake.

Find larger accounts in your niche first of all and to avoid any future disappointment set up an agreement with your seller.. such as X amount of followers for Y amount of Dollars

Wow thanks for the heads up I didn't realize that.

Wouldn't even successful accounts pay for fake likes just to keep things hot ? (especially since they have the budget for it I mean)
The problem is a little like doping in sports, if someone is doing it then all the others find themselves having to do it too, otherwise they're disadvantaged, no?
So I suppose it becomes a question of finding the accounts that have a real audience beyond the fake one
