    Hey everyone!

I own a sports news website and sometimes I share the articles on my 100k Facebook page. I have social networking buttons implemented on my articles and one hour after I post the article on Facebook, it gets, let's say 500 likes but maybe 200 visits only. So I am quite confused...if people want to LIKE the article, they have to click on the button, right? How can I get 500 likes from 200 visits then?

It happens EVERYTIME. One of my more popular articles has been viewed ~6000 times, yet it has ~8000 likes.

Could anyone explain to me how it exactly works?
    Thanks!

When they like your link on facebook, it will show up on your website without them actually leaving facebook. This also happens if they share it and other people like his 'share'

As Sasha said they can just like your post on Facebook with out even visiting your site, has been that way for ages.
They have to actually click on the image/link

Facebook likes count regardless of if they visit your website or not. So, if they share the article on Facebook or like it there without actually visiting your website, it'll still show up on the LIKE counter you have placed on the website. So, there is absolutely nothing wrong about it. Heave a sign of relief, will you?

Are you looking to increase the traffic up to the # of likes? In the past, I have instead of posting what the article is about followed by the link, posted something like "BOOM! [link here]" or "Who else can't believe this? [link]" - people will visit your site AND like the article.

If you put what the article is about followed by the article link, many people will just click like if they see a topic that they enjoy. A similar thing happens on Reddit.

Chill bro! You're doing a great job with the actual visit-to-like ratio like that :)
