Do hyphens in domain names count as EMDs?

For example, would www.buy-kupo-nuts.com be given the same priority as www.buykuponuts.com in Google's eyes?

Assuming both sites had same off-site and on-site SEO and link juice.

Or would www.buy-kupo-nuts.com get lesser priority than the EMD with no hyphens?

Less priority. Always buy the exact EMD if available.

Show me your case study, and not what "you think" or what "others" think. SEO, as an industry, is built on speculations for the most part, so nothing is ever clear like you're implying.

@OP, I would go for the EMD if it was available, if not I would go hyphenated, not because I think its less priority, but because I might lose out on some type in traffic. I'd rather have key-word.com then something like mykeyword.com

Anyways, it shouldn't really stress over it. Your domain is just one factor of ranking a site, the heavy lifting will be done by your offsite seo work.

how about this for a case study

    type: dog training

    the #1 result
    dog-obedience-training-review

the EMD exists but no where to be seen.

    So u can rank.

The question is how much more work do u need inorder to rank.

External Links 15,145 for that site.

NO offense, but here is an example either it EMD matters that much or not..

    Google Search Term: promotional models

    1st Ranking: domain with hypen
    5th Ranking: domain EMD

EMD is one of the factor, SEO does not means only EMD or EMD with hypen or without hypen, any site can rank for any keyword provided that it follows and covers all the SEO factors, not a single one. Onsite SEO, EMD, offsite SEO all counts.

What about partial domain name. Like mechanicalexpert.com for <mecanical xxxxx> keyword and having 10 different keywords on my site as pages. Doing BL-s for all of them.

The thing about EMD is that, if it is available, it can signal an easy keyword to target and rank for. At this stage, many of the good low hanging fruit has been taken.

The real question you should be asking is, "Can I beat the top 10 listings in Google?" How much effort will it take for me to get into the top 4? Is this keyword worth that effort in expected returns?"
