Are http request based bots faster than socket based bots?

I'd actually be a little curious to know this as well. Take a traffic bot for example, would it be easier to make the hits show up in google analytics by using a socket method, or a webrequest method?

In bot terms, both are used interchangeably in order to differentiate it from browser automation...

HTTP requests are high level wrappers to support transport of HTTP protocol based messages/data, but it still uses the underlying sockets. Sockets are low level APIs that handle data in terms of bytes not specific to any high level protocols.
