I tested my website on a website analyser.. It says I'm using a lot of HTML and that it's bad.
I use HTML to highlight words and for font size..
Is it going to hurt my SEO if I overuse HTML?

I don't think there is something as "too much html", it comes down to file size and it can be for html, javascript, or whatever.
Just try to keep it compact enough so your site can be loaded in an acceptable amount of time.

As long as your load time on your site is ok I would not stress about it. You could always move your site to PHP or even use wordpress if you are trying to get ranking. Lots more plugin that you can use for wordpress.
