I'm currently setting up my own webdesign agency. I bought a relevant expired domain a few weeks ago.
The Keyword has around 1300 monthly searches and Keyword Difficulty of 18.

The domain has:
- The Keyword "webdesign"
- DA 35
- CF 16
- TF 0
- Around 200 backlinks (not spam)

I've already written the content for the website and did some on page optimization.

What would be the right steps to take in the next few weeks ?

I'm thinking of:
- Social Profiles
- High DA Profile Backlinks
- Guest Post Outreach

Any other suggestions ?

You seem to have everything covered, though ranking for a 'webdesign' KW doesn't strike me as the best way to generate leads.

I'd try couple (strong) brand mentions, creating some killer posts for your blog if you have one & portfolio sites that let you create a profile and share your work (there must be dozens) for diversity.

some on page optimization

Maybe do some more :) Make sure everything's covered.

BTW, are you seeing any movement yet?

To rank up the expired domain again on google serp you need to create the DA PA of your website so that it index in google and also rank in google. Also there are some analysis which you need to perform like broken link analysis, 404 issues and ,many more.

Keep building links and post content regularly.
It would take time to rank for that kw btw

Build content around the expired URLs so that the anchors of the old backlinks make sense to Google.

What is weird for me is that this domain has over 200 backlinks and 0 TF. Are you sure it is clean?

Buy one with decent backlinks, good metrics and with only (or a vast majority of) branded and raw url anchors, and you'll not need to do much at all (if anything).

I find that .org domains are best for this.

Any other suggestions ?

Is the agency local? If so, does the domain include area name too?

I would check among the backlinks and if any go to other pages than the homepage, I would make sure to recreate those urls on current site so you don't get 404.

See mate, even if it is expired domain, it is no different except that it is aged, so you can throw link without much worry. so You will get advantage of aged domain and existing link profile which will help you to rank with little easy effort than ranking a new domain.

First You need to see, if this is dropped or still carry age factor.
Apart from this, expired domain carrry the advantage of existing link, so you do not have to do fresh start. but again you need to see what sort of those links are and are they good enough to rank your keyword? If not, start the link building process same as how you would have done for new domain.

add some web 2.0, blog command and PBN links too

Would redirecting 404 pages to homepage work ? I currently also have links to 404 pages and set redirection

I would either recreate the original pages or redirect to other relevant pages. If you just redirect them to homepage it might not be relevant to the link and the user will have the same reaction as with a 404 page... instant bounce.

so, 404 pages are bad only for user experience? no other seo problemZ?

add the quality contents and quality backlinks . do the proper keywords ranking with low search volume
