Hello all, and thank you in advance for your suggestions.

I'm new to this so any advice would be greatly appreciated. And I hope this is the proper forum for this ...

I very recently created an all male adult membership site. It's something like Gay Bareback Sex meets Black Magic/witchecraft/satanism.

I know. Pretty weird. But there are a lot more men into it than you might imagine. I've been up for a couple weeks and getting about 1200 visitors a day now, and three to five member registrations a day. About 140 members total and growing. Don't know if that's good, but feels promising. :D

I haven't yet done much of anything to monetize it, largely because I was booted from PayPal for having adult content. Live and learn!

While I really want to continue developing and writing for the site, money is an issue. I can write quality, kinky and bizzarro content all day, but have to pay the bills in the meantime. As such, I'm considering selling it and then starting something else. Unless I could find an investor or, even better, someone to buy it and simply hire me to do the work on it. But I have No idea where to look for either, or if either is even possible/likely.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

So you're looking for someone to invest meaning they're going to pay you a salary to write the content and run the site? I don't understand why you can't work a day job and develop the site on the side.

As indicated, that was an Open ended question on my part. Because, as also indicated, I know nothing about this business. Not afraid to admit that since we all have to begin somewhere. And I trust that some folks around here, or elsewhere, will have constructive feedback.

I just lost my "day job" last week. That, however, is irrelevant to the question; which focused on what options--if any--may exist for selling a site. I threw in the additional part about writing for the site as well because ... why not? I have an MA in Literature and Writing and enjoy the the work I already do on the site. Readers seem to as well.
Just as labor intensive, but far more enjoyable, than Wage Slavery. Figured it couldn't hurt to ask about that.

    So, anything constructive to share?

If you want to charge for memberships to adult sites, you obviously can't use the same payment gateways as you would for mainstream (as you've found out). Check out CCBill.com or Epoch.com.

Thank you for your feedback, Reallife.

Yes, I learned that the hard way. For someone new it wasn't obvious lol.
Unfortunately, CCBill is too expensive. I haven't the capital. I worked for a few days on setting up Zombaio (which is a pain in the A**) before coming up with an alternative and (for now) free strategy: charging for a weekly email course via shopify. Access to member areas of the site are granted upon order of the course.

Fortunately, the nature of my site allows me to sell the "course" without it being overtly sexual, which would violate shopify's policies. Later, assuming it starts picking up, shopify has a reasonably affordable option for automatic rebilling.

Clearly this wouldn't work for typical adult websites. But the nature of my niche makes it viable for mine.

Made my first $109 sell today! For a a newbe like me, that's a big deal. A lot to learn, but at least I'm on something approaching the right track.

Thanks again for the feedback. Much appreciated!

Congrats! Be aware that solution may not last forever; I know people who have been banned from mainstream payment platforms even though they only had glamour photography sites which weren't overtly sexual, but hopefully that won't happen to you. Best of luck.

OP, having been in that business for a while, I would suggest a different forum. BlackHatWorld is not the adult industry forum, GFY is.

I would suggest finding several niche related affiliate sites. There are tons of gay male affiliate programs. You will probably make a mint if you have that much traffic/members already. Couple of well placed ads could earn you a nice income. As for payment platforms, it's pretty much CCBill unless you are going to build your own. Hope that helps.

It sounds like the site might have potential.
Get a Job and work on this on the side.
Once you have determined if it can be properly monetized and you have set up the appropriate billing system then see if somebody is willing to JV with you.
    Good Luck

    Thanks!
And, yes, I hope that doesn't happen. I've been careful to avoid having anything on the store site that shows or suggests anything sexual. So hopefully they won't ban me. At least until I can afford a proper membership billing set up.

    It does, and thank you!
I have one affiliate ad up, and set up a link to tube porn I set up through pimproll.
Neither have made a dime yet. I will keep experimenting and hopefully find something that pays off.

You have problems with content, design, promotion? You are getting a nice amount of registrants, you should consider put a lot of effort on it. At least now that you are unemployed and see how it goes.

    Anyway, good luck!

I wouldn't bother with pimproll, sounds like kinkydollars is more down your street.

    OP,

I'd keep the site and push through.

Your expenses should be pretty low so maintaining it shouldn't really cost much.

Any option you choose will take a few days to take effect, even if you were to find a buyer for the site.

    How much are you needing?

Push come to shove, start content writing. It's tough to find good content writers in the adult-niche.

    I just got another idea:

I haven't put this into practice myself but,

Why don't you spoof the money that's coming in?

For example, build another site (a clean one, maybe general dating) and link that site's payment option to your adult site. All you have to do is make the payment page generic.

Don't worry about making it all fancy because all you want it to do is act as a front for your payments.

    Thank you for your ideas!
Some updates: I think I am going to stick with it and push through, though there have been a lot of problems. For good or bad, I got my old job back. So at least income will roll in. Means less time to devote to the site, however.

I topped at at 18000 visitors and some 200 registered members in a month. Then lost my entire database. I'm almost done rebuilding it, and the members are returning.

I made $700 using an idea like yours: I sold an e-course through shopify that was not overtly adult oriented, then used that to grant higher access to the site as a "bonus." Unfortunately, the very mention of "You must be 18 to purchase" resulted in a TOS violation. So now that idea is dead.

Frankly, I don't know how I will monetize now. I'm focusing on building the site with quality content over the next few months, then work on finding an option to make money off it. Or sell it. I've no idea how much such things sell for.

Adult-niche content writing sounds Ideal, and I'm good at it. Do you have any ideas of where to market my skills for something like that?

Thank you kindly for the feedback!

I actually have no problems with content, design or promotion. Monetization has been the real issue.
