How well do romance or erotica fare in other languages ?

Did you try translating romance / erotica from another language to English or vice-versa ? How well did it turn out ?
I rarely see people talk about doing that "business" in other languages, and I'm one to believe it might be much less competitive to publish in, say, French or German than in English.

Do any of you guys have experience with this ?

'Romance' is way out of my league. Stay away from women
