I have two sites ranking on the first page for a competitive keyword. One site is at position #3 and other at #9. Major traffic comes from this keyword for both the sites.

Daily unique hits to the site at #3 position is about 1500 uniques, but that for the site at #9 position is just around 150. So, even on the first page it makes a lot of difference in the traffic one can get.

I was gonna post the same pic. You beat me to it.

A good idea is to look at SEOT (seo traffic) column in market samurai, it shows how many visitors you can expect if your site is in the first spot.

I myself have always found this data to be pretty accurate with my own rankings:

To be honest, everything is possible and you dont actually know what is more accurate. You need to have a good sample which means that you need to dominate the whole first page for thousands of niches and keywords in order to be able to draw a good conclusion:)

In any case, the first does not receive the traffic thats its given by the google kw tool and the traffic the third receives is deducted by a considerable percentage...

Has anyone seen or found some studies that incorporate the new google serp layout with the changes that now make local results so much more prominant? I am curious if anyone has eye-tracking or clicking studies they have done or seen with the new setup.

It depends on your niche as well. In some niches the traffic will be more spread out on the 1st page, in others the traffic will mostly go to the top 3. What the guys showed above is the usual traffic distribution throughout the 1st page.

Also, if you have a compelling page title and your seprs competitor doesn't, that might get you a couple of extra visitors.
