    Good share, OP.

I'd vaguely been aware of device fingerprinting, but wasn't aware that you could easily 'spoof' it.

I installed the extension, and then ran through some various testing sites - it basically returns a dynamically generated 'faked' fingerprint whenever a site requests to read the fingerprint, and the faked fingerprint changes each time.

    Excellent :)

And no, people who use this don't usually have anything to hide. I will use this for the same reason that I close my front curtains in the evening.

fingerprinting programs, history loggers (remember those?), spyware, phishing links, facebook, twitter, youtube, etc. etc. etc.

many people don't take their web privacy seriously until something bad happens. unfortunately by then it's often too late.

Sorry, my normal browser configuration does not allow Panopticlick to run. My normal browser configuration also stops access to site like PCWorld and others because they do not get the message. Some sites, If I really, really want to access them, I have to use Chrome rather than FF. That is if they are not in that huge hosts file I have.

Well, if you install CanvasBlocker, you'll pass 3 tests out of 4, but only 2 tests will be shown as passed. The reason behind that is that the panopticlick site doesn't know that you use CanvasBlocker and you actually fake the fingerprint. Faking is better than blocking, because entirely blocking it may break some websites.

You can also use these sites too to check your browser fingerprint:

Seems like they have problems with spoofed and injected data.

That's ok. If they don't like it, it will change in ten minutes.

Gee from Linux to Mac and from Chrome to FireFox.

Give em what they want, but in a way that does no good for tracking.
