Hi, so i have mainly been doing seo for my own websites and have a potential client (also a friend) who wants me to help him rank a new website for a specific keyword.

Now i dont know how much i should charge on a monthly basis(or one off) for providing the service and wonder how do people work out this out? I know it depends on the keyword and competition and thats it.

    Cheers.

It depends on mutual agreement.Generally SEO is a long term process therefore the charges are on monthly basis but if you are just providing link pyramids you can charge as per pyramids.

    This is pretty simple...

There are 3 formats I often see, in order of least preferable to most

    A) By The Hour
Work out what your time is worth, work out how many hours it will take to get the results and multiply the two.

    B) Competition Matrix
Create a number of keyword competition categories (easy, medium, hard, pros only) and create pricing structures based on these.

    C) Business consultant
ROI based pricing. If your client stands to make an incremental profit of $100,000 based upon your work then you deserve 25% of that

To me it really matters how good you are. I'm very good and charge accordingly.

SEO is a long term process. You should do the work on hourly basis. Try to do the work some fixed hours per month. If you are able to find out a perfect contractor then he may charged $300-$400 for 3-4 page rank.
