maybe no index the site and wait a few weeks for it to be removed from index/cache.

Then move the content over to the new site.

    This is really hard.
Usually you need to de index your site and then use the articles on your other domain.
But this move can be impossible, if you have someone copying your content.
If someone is copying your content and you transfer the content to your other site and your first site is de indexed, it will look like he is the original owner of the articles and your are screwed.

I think you just need a htaccess redirect - just Google it, redirecting old site to new site with htaccess.
Basically it will tell google you have moved to the new site.

If you dont want the old site associated with the new, then i think you can move the content to the new site, then add the old site in webmaster tools and ask for google to remove from index..?

Well, OP you can follow this if you no need your old site anymore.. If you no need to deindex the old site then remove the content from the old site and wait for weeks.. Later, check whether it is indexed still.. Do paste the deindexed content to your site..

If the old domain has a penalty:

It's simple. Tick "discourage search engines from indexing this site" in the WordPress settings of the old site (if it was built on WordPress) or just block it via your robots.txt file. Then follow these steps:

    - Add the old site to your webmaster tools account.
    - Verify it
    - Click on "remove urls" in your WMT dashboard
    - Enter your site's homepage url into the space provided
    - Click "remove"

Make sure the type of removal is designated as "site removal" on the confirmation page before confirming the removal.

Within a few hours your entire site will be deindexed. To check if it has been deindexed, perform this search on Google:

site:domain.com (replace domain.com with your domain name)

Once you confirm that it's no longer indexed, you can move all your content from the old domain to the new one. After that, delete the old site through your cPanel.

If the old domain doesn't have any penalty, there's no need to do everything above. Just redirect the old one to the new one and move your content to the new one.
